Then it should be addressed locally or the state gov't should compensate the relevant school districts. Denying illegal immigrants in Austin or Dallas or Houston public education because of the activities of a handful of daily border crossers is absurd.

Compensated? No, they need to be kept out.

Let's talk about Social Security, also.
Why is it being held out of paychecks still? Do you not find it ridiculous?
I'm already disgusted about it, and can only imagine a 19 year old entering the work force and having it withheld.

Of course, that's based on the assumption that THEY HAVE A SOCIAL SECURITY CARD.

"Almost everyone has family on the south side, and that has made people quite passive about the issue," he added.
The locals don't seem to mind very much. If they want more comprehensive residency checks, they should get it done. It's not a problem for state or national gov't's.

Dunno what your complaint is. Illegal immigrants are paying for our retirement.

                  Do they?

Why is it not a problem for the state governments?
Because of what I quoted: the locals don't want to push for strong residency checks.

So you oppose the senate plan to give them all SS in addition to giving people who have never set foot in the United States SS?

And according to what I quoted they do. Now can we get a real answer to the question about why a state issue isn't a state problem?

No one suggested giving illegal immigrants social security benefits. In the Senate plan, they have to become legal residents or citizens first.

No, they don't. They clearly did not push for strong residency checks. Hence the problem. At the ballot box through their representative gov't, the locals have made it clear that they don't mind.
