It allows me to have fun. The SO cannot be around cigarette smoke (he has asthma) which basically precluded is from going to bars or clubs.

There's no reason why smokers should be able to smoke in public places. It's a minor inconvenience for them to go outside, and in the process prevents polluting non-smokers lungs with toxic smoke.

That's fewer deaths than air pollution.

public sentiment through voting can and does restrict adn regulate and this is what the smoking ban indoors does. it restricts and regulates WHERE smoking occours. its funny because bans are just extreme forms of restriction and regulation that sounds bad.

Cars are not the only contributer to air pollution, and those air pollution numbers are very suspect.

What other legal activity is banned in all businesses in any jurisdiction you are familiar with?

                  • Hyperbole? But why, it's perfectly acceptable according to your argument of smoking in public should be allowed because of the principle of "liberty".
My liberty ends where another person's begins. I cannot shoot someone but I can choose to smoke even if the action harms myself.

"Liberty" is irrelevant here because the whole point is the government has the right to set up laws with regards to public health and safety. That's why murder is illegal, that's why you're not allowed to drink and drive, that's why you're not allowed to smoke in public places.
Again, is a bar a public place or a private establishment?

I would hope that you believe in private property and the right for property owners to use their property how they see fit. If a man wishes to smoke in the privacy of his own home, I see no reason why one ought to ban or harrass him in any way shape or form.

If a business wishes to open and allow people to smoke there, then by all means, they ought to be permitted to do so. Same with the business that wishes to prevent people from smoking, or the home of a non-smoker.

Liberty is essential to any freedom asher, even if a man wishes to harm himself, we ought to permit him to do so.

well obviously you dont get why people want to regulate smoking indoors.

i dont think you understand the idea of viewing something from a perspective not your own. I think you also have trouble understanding analogies and metaphors.

On what basis do you suspect them?

And if air pollution was the larger killer, wouldn't it make more sense to expend more effort to combat that? But no... anti-smoking zealots are busy driving their SUVs down the freeway while they chat with their friends on cell phones while inhaling McDonalds...

You better keep thinking because you're completely out to lunch here.

This is about smoking in bars and restaurants. Do you understand?

The idea is in a confined space, people are emitting toxic smoke.

Nobody is talking about banning smoking outright.
Nobody is talking about banning smoking outside.
Nobody is talking about banning smoking in your own home.

The issue is in a public place, such as a bar or a restaurant. That is THE distinction here, and I would appreciate it if you COMPREHENDED this before posting again.

None of those are banned in hotels with fireplaces.

It's actually a good point -- from what it looks like in this thread, it's the pro-smoking crowd driving the gas-guzzling pollution-spewing vehicles.

                                What do you drive, nye?
