  • Interesting thing about Montana right now is that the margin by which Burns is trailing is less than the number of votes won by the Libertarian candidate. Since I doubt many Libs would otherwise be voting Dem, the Libertarians may well cost the GOP the Senate.

    • Heh. Losing control of Congress isn't a bad result for the Republicans! Honest!

2-term presidents tend to see their parties lose seats in year 6. But that's different from losing control of congress, which is much more rare, I believe.

Libertarians possibly voting the GOP? I surely must learn more about American libertarians, seems so impossible to me, especially considering the authoritarian approach to civil rights by Bush's government.

or many libertarians were people who used to vote GOP. Both are for (or used to be) less goverment. I even flirted with the libertarian ideology, but then realized it's not practical in the real world. But I have still lost faith with the GOP, so now I vote democrat sometimes .

Bush's "authoritarian approach to civil rights" is largely a myth, albeit one popular amongst Europeans who think they know more about America than they actually do. It's really rather ironic, given that most European countries are far more authoritarian when it comes to civil rights than the US is, even under Bush's tyranny...

                        • Hmm. A large number of votes in Montana have disappeared. Regardless, here is the history I have for the dems lead there so far:

                          10591 11251 8905 8274 8219 7428 6845 6895 7025 6852 6774 7516 7157 7025 5752

                          And in Virginia:

A misleading statement as there has been very few occasions in the last 50 years where a year 6 election has occurred with the president's party in control of congress prior to the election, possibly 4 occurences in this time in total, an American can possibly list the correct number, if so 2 out of 4 is 50%, so a relatively normal result.
