  • wow, didn't think Webb would pull it off. Still only about 8000 votes, but I doubt recounts and absentees can make it up.

Bush's "authoritarian approach to civil rights" is largely a myth, albeit one popular amongst Europeans who think they know more about America than they actually do. It's really rather ironic, given that most European countries are far more authoritarian when it comes to civil rights than the US is, even under Bush's tyranny...
That's partly true but at least we still have uncontested habeas corpus. And it's also true that civil rights have not been expanded under Bush, or do you claim something else?

        • Or what about the domestic phone tapping business.. that sounds reasonable.

There are tons of violations today in US that weren't there before. But yes, there are violations in Europe as well. BUt if you think there's a great difference, you think you know Europe better than you do

            • Wow, this is exciting....
2 Senate races still in doubt....
Only a couple of thousands of votes difference...

              • In Montana the votes from Fergus county (very republican) are in and with 91% reported, the difference is a few hundred shy of 2k. The remaining precincts are pretty tied so far, so it's going to be ridiculously close.

Word. This will be about a 45+ swing in the House and perhaps a 6 seat swing in the Senate. That's massive. That's close to 2004 numbers.

Supposedly there are 21k absentees that Burns is banking on.

                        • Tester and Webb are now solidly clinched, not counting absentees. Tester has a lead of almost 2k, and the only county left had a total population of about 2k in the 2000 census.

                          • One interesting thing is that if the Dems did 1% better generally (increasing their net vote by 2%), we'd be looking at 1994-scale House losses.
