Its the best we have atm.

I still use my Minidiscs too btw, they are very handy. Couple years ago everyone had them here.

You'll note I never criticised their utility or their formats' benefits. Betamax is superior. MiniDiscs are useful. Blu-Ray has lots of potential.

That doesn't mean the first two succeeded or that the third one will.

People have a habit of buying what's cheap, easy to find, and marketed well, not what's technically best--otherwise, **** like the iPod, Windows, Ikea, or McDonald's wouldn't be dominating the marketplace right now.

"Drinking the kool-aid" is a idiom which means, "what the **** are you smoking," or "my, how has the reality distortion field altered your perception."

For instance, the Republicans drank the Bush Administration's kool-aid.

Apple fanbois regularly drink Jobs's kool-aid.

You seem to be in your own little world that has little bearing with reality regarding Sony.

        • Yeah I guess you are right. Then again the best will never be the The Cheap. Thats why we still have our Lamborghinis, Vertus, Blancpain Le Brassus 1735 etc.

Due to its established position in the classical and jazz enthusiast circles I'm convinced SACD will be around a long time. And that the important and good thing. The mob doesnt need SACD for their Britneys and Black Eyed Peas

Why do I say this? Well, for one, it's Sony's format. Other such winning formats that they've backed: Betamax. Bookman. MiniDisc. MemoryStick. ATRAC. UMD.
              What about the 3.5" Floppy?

They were fairly useless until IBM improved the format to make it 1.44MB.

                • *edit* never mind.

                  2 successes out of 8.

25%. That's still not that good--even worse, both of those successes were over what, 20 years ago?

                  • That it was a superior format and it won. Not as a counterexample to Sony, but a counterexample to inferior formats winning. At least, that's how I read it.

                    • And yes, Kuci's right. It's one counterexample to inferior products winning--however, I still maintain that just because it's technologically superior does not ensure victory, as accessibility, marketing, and pricing considerations tend to drive victories in the marketplace.

                      • You cant be serious. Being victorious doesnt mean you've sold the most. In certain markets pricing is not an issue as much as quality is. Overall I predict thats the trend, people are going to get weary of made in china quality or made in usa in cars. When your net income is high enough quality tends to take over price in importance. We dont want to be cheap do we. Why should we buy ****, and settle to anything less then the best. Thats what you as a consumer have to take side in.

Dear Asher, I've been through this with you. When you sell billions your margins of error grow quite a bit as well. I do agree being a little upset to find out my Sony Walkman NW-E507 was made in China. It seems to me like the Chinese are to blame for Sonys problems. Sony is just trying to survive on the market flooded with Chinese copies like Coby, Sonny etc.
