Six wins and you're already planning a Stanley Cup parade.

It means nothing. Fact is, Detroit beat Calgary this month, (remember, right before Calgary lost to Columbus) so basically the Flames are even against the Wings.

And even as the Flames are winning, in the back of your mind you must be remembering what happened last year with the Flames strategy. Looks good in the regular season, doesn't work in the playoffs.

As for the Leafs, you know the losses have nothing to do with strategy. Toronto had two of its top players out with injuries (and now three with Aubin down). So, yes, the Leafs have to work three times as hard to get a victory because they can't use their winning strategy of high scoring games.

But in no way, shape or form does this negate the fact that the Leafs strategy is the one that will win in the end.

And what's good to see is the Leafs are still playing strong despite the injuries, they're not being blown out.

    • Another Crazy night in the NHL

Lets look at the canadian teams again

Calgary-- enjoying their Detroit win and headed for a showdown in Edmonton Tuesday-- They are playing better all the time and a 6 game win streak tends to forgive their slow start. They are looking more and more like the solid playoff calibre team I expected. I do believe they need to develop or acquire more offense but they are doing reasonably well as it is

Toronto-- Their d is still playing reasonably well. In their 4 game win streak they gave up just one goal on 3 occasions. In the last two games, they only gave up 2 goals each time but got 2 losses. It seems their vaunted offence has gotten cold. I guess that can happen to any team.

Montreal-- wildly inconsistent with generall a recent record of win one, lose one, win two, lose one. Most recently they beat Atlanta and Tampa but got smashed by Florida (although that was the second road game on consecutive nights and statistically teams suck in that situation)-- Overall they seem solid enough-- no favorite for the cup but a decent team.

Ottawa-- will the real Senators please stand up? Are they the team that beats Buffalo twice in a weak or that crushed the Leafs so easily-- or are the team that loses to everyone else?

Edmonton-- They have won 3 of 4 after that 4 game winless slide and are hanging tough with Detroit-- although again I a conncerned that they didn't creatr much offence in the secod

Vancouver-- They beat the blues but thats a team that has lost 6 of 7 so not really the toughest test these days. I am fearing overall that Luongo may not be able to carry this team into the playoffs. Right now I see them as the team least likely to make the playoffs.

Yeah, a trip to game 7 of the finals in the prior year and last season an incredibly close 7-game match against hot goaltending.

As for the Leafs, you know the losses have nothing to do with strategy.
You sure? 'cause the lame D looks like a huge culprit to me.

Not I-- I actually look more at HOW they are playing-- Victories are part of that but I also look at what is happening with the team. There have been encoouraging signs on this streak. The early wins were nailbiters but they did a good job on the hapless Blues and their game against Detroit was impressive. Even if they lose in Edmonton I will be interested in how they play

Time will tell-- I already have a bet that the Flames won't be a "bottom eight " team-- How good do feel about that prediction now ?

True-- Their defense/goaltending has been what has surprised me this season. I expected them to score -- I just thought they would give up more goals than they have . . . and unlike you I can see the good and the bad in teams. I too have my biases but I'm not a fan that ignores realities

Just to be clear-- On the test of being "legendary" the Canadians are the clear number 1-- I can't imagine that you can dispute that. The Leafs are the clear number two-- As for the rest I'm not sure why the Canucks and Jets rank as high as they do

The Oil aren't hitting enough. This is especially evident when a team like Detroit gets them running around in their own end.

                          • Anaheim is looking really good... so consistent. You knwo you get these teams that are on fire for some time, but seems like the Ducks are the favourite this year. Of course the playoffs will just be too unpredictable, look at what has happened in the last few years.. seems like the underdog is always the great upset team ... oh well.

So today their first line scored 5 goals. That's pretty good.
