If anything, the Leafs value is low. It is way below 10 times earnings. None of the other clubs are anywhere close to 10 times earnings except the Habs.

Hmm. Big time hockey markets... value of franchise... could there be a connection?

Meanwhile, look at the sad sacks like Columbus and the teams below them.

There is, also plays a factor is revenue from the previous year from many rounds of the playoffs.

I'm not sure what your implication is. Some teams rip fans off more than others, and you seem to be proud of that or something. Bizarre.

Calgary has constant sellouts...meaning ticket prices could rise to raise revenue and therefore value. The fact that they're not gouging fans is, in my opinion, a good thing...

Toronto is the worst hockey team in that list in terms of being friendly to the fans. Try and score decent seats for $50 for a Leafs game -- I dare you.

You have a market of 6 million hockey mad fans with plenty of cash. You can charge x for a game.

You have a market of 1 million who only care now because they have a couple of good players who can promise to win the odd game by a 2-1 score, like say Calgary with Kipper and Iggy. You can't charge as much for a ticket.

You have to be kidding me. The Flames sucked for a decade straight, combined with a weak Canadian dollar and a big-market teams like Toronto, and they still kept the team.

(I suppose you don't remember the hockey lottery the government organized to raise money to help keep the Oilers in Edmonton -- funny, that)

Total Calgary home attendance 05-06: 790,849 (Average 112% capacity -- they added more seats, incase you're wondering)
Total Edmonton home attendance 05-06: 690,143 (Average: 98% capacity).

Didn't even sell out every game last season. I guess there are only fairweather fans in Edmonton.

Calgary's NHL team is measured in value as lower than Columbus... a team with 0 playoff appearances that didn't exist 7 years ago and is located in the middle of Ohio.

This is nothing personal. I posted an interesting set of numbers about the value of NHL franchises. You may take it personally, but that's your choice.

It's fine to discuss teams and their valuation and its implication. To be honest, I don't know why Columbus is valued as much as it is given its low ticket prices and low attendance. In fact, I question the validity of these numbers just like all of the owners laughing at them because they're guestimates and usually quite a bit off from the real thing. Forbes is not privy to much of the information owned by private ownership groups.

In fact I think the reason Columbus may have an advantage over Calgary is their arena is much newer, and worth much more. But thank you for playing...
