Corrected. The Xbox was a lot better than the PS2 for western RPGs, with titles such as Morrowind, KOTOR, KOTOR 2 and Jade Empire.
All of which are on PC, or going to be. And arguably better on PC.

When the newest graphic cards + CPU upgrades may cost you similar to a console (and you may not be able to hook up your computer to your HDTV), you may simply go for console instead .
The only one that qualifies is Oblivion (and maybe Jade Empire) - and honestly, that game wasn't that good. It had some good points that were obscured by critical weaknesses, like the combat system. Neither KOTOR 1 nor 2 are very graphically demanding.

That's because you're a rabid fanboy. The rest of us recognize that there were only a few good games for the Xbox ever.
Which is, again, odd as the Xbox had the highest software attach rate of the last generation. This is curiously odd for a game with only a few good games.
Perhaps the fact is while you consider awful turds like Super Mario Sunshine a good game, the public at large does not agree.

KOTOR2 was buggy as hell on the PC. I couldn't get it to run very well.

I rented it and played it fine without any noticeable bugs...
Meanwhile the sound kept crackling and fading out on the PC.

I would assume that those folks are less interested in the "library" which I always thought referred to games that are already out. Most of which wont need the latest graphics card to run. (Ok, maybe Oblivion, i havent really followed that)

The public at large loves Japanese RPGs, and loves playstation (more PS2s installed than Xbox and Xbox 360 combined, at this point, right?) Before you said the publics taste is often bad, and now youre invoking the the publics behavior as evidence of quality?

It's hit and miss, obviously.
The Gamecube's sales sucked because the console sucked. There were few games, and the games generally sucked.
The Xbox had lots of great games -- and most of the games also available on the PC were more enjoyable on the Xbox.
The JRPG popularity is merely due to ignorant masses.
(Of course it all comes down to the tastes of gamers, but to say the Xbox had a shallow library in comparison to other consoles when it sold the most software per console shows most people don't agree -- simple as that)
As far as I'm concerned, and coincidentally as far as sales are concerned, the Gamecube had the most shallow game catalog by far.

Im not sure why attachment rate shows depth of library. Xbox simply didnt have as many sales as PS2, and it could be that they were all interested in the more homogeneous Xbox library. IE most Xbox buyers probably liked most Xbox games, while SOME PS2 buyers were JRPG fans who wouldnt touch a Madden game, and some were sports fans who wouldnt touch an RPG, etc, etc.
I mean the average PC gamer probably doesnt buy anymore games per year than the avg PS2 or Xbox player. Would that lead you to say that the PC game library is shallower than the console libraries?

The PC comparisons are screwy because of rampant piracy.
The Gamecube's depth sucked because:
1) MARIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
2) ZELDAAAAAAAAAAA
3) METROIDDDDDDDDD
4) ^^ variations thereof ad naseum

Most people look at the library to see the number and quality of games that WILL come out in the future. The market for older games is far smaller than newer ones. A library is good for make future prediction.
