Oh, and I'm suprised no one has brought up the War of 1812 yet.

last time was 1968. Not too many canadians involved. 14th Street finally almost all recovered, even gentrified. H Street, NE next.

Ahh that was a trash can fire in comparison to 1812.

i bet im the only one here whos ever actually been to the site of the Battle of Bladensburg. I mean Fort McHenry, a huge and famous NPS site. Every damned civil war battle, a visitor center, trails, parking fees, whole nine yards. Bladensburg, a little dippy county park, really only there for the anacostia river view, a few signs, plus a tiny marker at the nearby cemetary. Not too proud of that one, are we?

Have to admit haven't been to Bladensburg and am guilty as charged of touring many of the Civil war battlefields, Bull run, Chancellorsville, Petersburg.

1812 is really the forgotten war for the most part. Plenty of revolutionary battlefields are still open. Used to visit Brandywine on a pretty frequent basis (and that one was a loss as well).

Except 30 or so miles away from the obscure Bladensburg site is another war of 1812 site, perhaps the most exquisitely interpretated battle site on the continent, Gettysburg and Yorktown excepted. You drive through South Baltimore, and go to the visitor center. They give you a lovely film about the Battle of Baltimore, telling about the war, the battle, the fort, and of cours about Mr. Key. At the end, they start the anthem, and they pull back the curtain from the side of the darkened room, revealing old glory, actually flying over the damned fort. You either get mysty eyed, or you get angry at being manipulated, but you sure dont think of it as forgotten, I can tell you that.

Now I grew up on the site of the battle of Long Island (I mean if you count the whole area the brits marched through on their way to the Heights) and I dont recall seeing any interpretation anywhere. Maybe a marker or two in Prospect Park.

It doesn't matter if Canada didn't exist legally, if the people who did it stayed and became ancestors to what was later known to be Canada.

                          • Well if they want to be known as a nation proud of commiting war crimes, should it be considered pity or malice to continue to let them wallow in historical innacuracies?

                              do you have a citation?

This site, which lists OOBS for 1812 battles, and lists LOTS of Canadian involvement in general, shows only British units (on the invading side) at Bladensburg.

                              How many Canadians were there?

I mean its odd, when discussing the battle of the Atlantic, say, or the Canadian support for the Americans during the Am Rev y'all are quite insistent that numbers matter.
