    Indeed, you are a rarity.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

None that I know of, at least.

The count includes all immigrants, both legal and illegal. However, the count of illegal immigrant has been consistently inaccurate in the past.

ive got 45 (I think) nieces and nephews on one side. Ive got only one on the other side. thats what happens when you marry into the kind of family I did.

Most of the nieces and nephews already have children, and at least one is already a grandparent.

So you've got something like 6-8 siblings with 6-8 children each?! That's nuts!

His wife does. And it's no big deal.

Its p'ru u r'vu, is what it is. Actually I have only one sib. My wife has six sibs. Each has at least 6 kids. I think one has nine, but i can never keep them all straight.

and the nephews and nieces show no signs of having smaller families.

In the mid 70s the Chasidim of Williamsburgh, Brooklyn, were estimated at about 30,000. In the early years of this century, the NY jewish fed estimated the Jewish pop of Williamsburgh at 60,000, almost all Chasidic, despite the creation in the meantime in the suburbs of the almost completely chasidic communities of Monsey (about 10,000) and Monroe (About 20,000) and some net migration from Williamsburgh to the formerly mainly non-Chasidic neighborhood of Borough Park.

It an experience. Going to a wedding, and some bearded bochur comes up and says "Hi, Im your nephew". Uh, yeah, right. Like I could tell him from the all others. Of course HE can tell right away who I am.

Theres this one pic from my wedding I love. From the Ketubah signing. Im standing there looking all dapper in my tuxedo. My about to be father in law (zichron le bracha) and one of my about to be brothers-in-law are looking up (why up? I dont know, I think they had been bending down to study the ketubah) at me.

They seem to accept that our branch of the family is Zionist

The hasidic Jews in the US are no match for the Amish.

Actually, the comparison and contrasting of beliefs and way of life between the two would be interesting.

Ah, so they're of that variety? I hope you're doing some missionary work there.

well for one the Amish have cooler beards. And much more attractive scenery. And could get along a heckuva lot better without the rest of the world. On the other hand, Id still have to say the Chasidim win hands down on food (though ive only experienced the commercial for tourists variety of Amish food). And much better for intellectual stimulation. The Amish dont seem real big on books. And the chasidim definitely aint "plain". One good Williamsburg chandalier would send the Amish running from the "pridefulness".
