Has anybody involved with nBSG given any sort of explanation as to why there is a big 9+ month gap between this cliffhanger and the next season?

What cliffhanger? It's not even coming close to the Boomer shooting Adama classic. Now that was a cliffhanger.
Btw, isn't it obvious that Starbuck is a Cylon? How could she survive that crash thingie? She most definitely woke up in a tub of goo."Beware of he who would deny you access to information, for in his heart he dreams himself your master" - Commissioner Pravin Lal.

The Viper Starbuck was flying was a Mk II, one of the old Vipers they had in the other hangar bay, since Galactica was set to become a museum. She's been flying a Mk II since forever. What was curious about it was that it looked squeaky clean.
I think Lee might have a Head Starbuck, actually.Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

So, does this mean that there's a second Human-Cylon Hybrid floating around? Cause that'll take away from Hera's import...Today, you are the waves of the Pacific, pushing ever eastward. You are the sequoias rising from the Sierra Nevada, defiant and enduring.

Yeah, from what I've read of RDM's interviews, Tyrol's and Cally's kid is definitely another hybrid. It's different in that its mother is a human and its father is a cylon, though, so you never know how that figures into it.Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. IIRC in the old BSG Starbuck was rescued by some supernatural beings, who presumably were related to the gods. Could this be a replay of the old scenario?
Maybe she got picked up by Thor's ship and she comes back with reinforcements from Stargate Command."I say shoot'em all and let God sort it out in the end!

For those of us with absolutely no knowledge of oBSG, to this point how closely has the plot been mirrored?"Remember, there's good stuff in American culture, too. It's just that by "good stuff" we mean "attacking the French," and Germany's been doing that for ages now, so, well, where does that leave us?" - Elok

They actually have followed the old series in a bunch of ways. the Capture of Baltar, I think his trial. The Pegasus, its last stand(though it was left open as to whether or not the Pegasus survived). The constant need for resources, etc.
The fleet democracy, cylons being the invention of man, the cylon religion, etc are new though.

I was having issues with the whole story line and was hating it right up till I saw it on screen. After actually seeing it, I'm starting to think that it has tremendous possilbilities and may end up blurring the line between cylons and humans. Which is what Moore has been saying throughout the season. Time and time again we have been told all this has happened before and will happen again.
I'm glad to see that the show addressed all the conquences of pretty much all the main characters at one time or another doing something that would have been considered an unforgivable act during normal times.
Adama's attempted coup
Tigh's suicied bombers
Apollo's pulling gun on Tigh and destroying the civilian ship
Rosiln sending people out the airlock
Starbucks disregard for superiors orders
Numerous more have all been forgiven, and now so has Baltar.
My favorite characters at the end of this season?
Tigh
Baltar
Adama
Apollo (very much redeamed in the last two episiodes)
I only hope Caprica Six gets more airtime next season.Which side are we on? We're on the side of the demons, Chief. We are evil men in the gardens of paradise, sent by the forces of death to spread devastation and destruction wherever we go. I'm surprised you didn't know that. --Saul Tigh
