While you're certainly right to think that you have to protect your kids - even with your own life - this creep was clearly in plain view of dozens of people and caught almost immediately. He posed no further threat since he was already surrounded by a lot of pissed-off people; he need only be restrained until the authorities arrived to haul his ass off to jail to face the relevent charges against him. Beating him serves no purpose other than to expose his captors to the possibility of assault charges. And what child is being protected by having their parent thrown in jail for going overboard?

This and other instances are examples of an hysterical overrreaction by people who do not think about the proportions or the actual harm inflicted.

It has nothing to do with whether you're a parent or not. That's just another knee jerk excuse that is used when you can't rationally defend the position you take up.

I tend to espouse the mindset put forward by Winston (!!), but criminals also tend to exaggerate the brutality they receive from police (Or The Mob in this case).

So it's probable that he got slapped down a little bit, and while that shouldn't encouraged, well, let's face it, he better get used to it given where he's going.

I have more problem with people in my own country who have this opinion. While we may have regional differences, we don't really have cultural differences in regard to sex and children.
