Then get its ass kicked from the US military and shoved back into the union in probably less than two weeks?

Brussels is a far better working environment. As an office building, it is far superior, and the other EU institutions that matter are located in Brussels as well (Strasbourg only hosts unimportant institutions, which is why the EU-Parliament has progressively been pulled out of Strasbourg).

Also, Brussels has a better transport infrastructure, as it has a fast-rail connection to the airport that matters (Roissy-Charles de Gaulle), and to the city that matters (Paris). Strasbourg has a slow-rail connection to the relevant world, and its airport is no better than Brussels'.

OTOH, the Strasbourg building looks great, while the Brussels building is just some anonymous office block. By the same token, the city of Strasbourg is much nicer than Brussels.

Colon, the reason why I refused to sign this petition is because I strongly disliked the tone, which I found almost insulting for the Strasbourg Parliament and the people who work there. I generally agree with the idea of putting the Parliament only in Brussels, because these two seats are indeed a waste of money, and because Brussels is a superior choice in comparison to Strasbourg. It's just that I'm rarely keen on signing petiotions that look they were written by a frothing-at-the-mouth extremist

I hope the EU institutions will seriosuly put this issue on the agenda now (and that a full legislative procedure follows). IIRC, in the constitution, it took 1 million signatures for a petition to be brought on the agenda. Even though the constitution failed, I hope the EU institutions will understand that they have a great opportunity: they can show that they actually listen to the people, and that such a broad mobilization can have an effect on the EU's functioning.

I admit the Strasbourg parliament is a far nicer building (though I wouldn't exactly call the Brussels one "anonymous"). Therefore I propose that the money saved on halting the carroussel be spent on tearing down the Strasbourg parliament and rebuilding it in Brussels.
