Like I said, I'm not sure I agree with the specific measure you alluded to. I'm not familiar with the specifics of it. I'm pretty sure, for exemple, that immigrants whose native tongue is english can go to english schools. But I don't know what are the rules for allophones. I have no problem whatsoever with asking an immigrant who speaks neither french nor english to go a french school. There's nothing distasful about that.

All I'm saying is that measures have to be implemented, measures like allowing a higher percentage of francophone immigrants for example. A laissez-faire policy simply won't do. If you can't even agree with that, I have nothing more to say.

But you have to realize that your refusal to understand our point of view, your refusal to put a little water in your wine would mean a parting of ways if it became official policy.

For multiple reasons, actually. Including a laissez-faire attitude. In fact, you have similar problems in the States, where spanish is spreading rapidly. And, IRC, similar measures have been taken in some States.

Yes, but an immigrant who speaks English but not French must go to a French school under Quebec law. Only people whose parents went to school in Quebec (or Canada?) in English can go to an English school.

That is quite different than trying to make Francophones out of non-francophones.

On an extreme end, during WWII, my grandfather one day was given a Hungarian name and told that from this day forward he must speak only Hungarian. Fortunately, this only lasted a few years until we recovered all of Transylvania. My own experiences are nothing in comparison, but still... I'm not fond of forced assimilation.

I don't see why you keep confusing the two. There's no link between the language laws and full-on independance. They're not measures implemented to lead us to independance, they're measures taken to help our culture and ou language thrive within Canada. A lot of québecois federalists support those measures, you know.

You think you're opposing the independantists by rejecting, in principle, all such measures. But, in fact, your giving fuel to the independantist movement.

And why are you always insisting on using loaded terms such as "forceful assimilation"? The correct term isn't assimilation, but integration. Immigrants must integrate with their host society one way or another. We're just nudging them in one direction.
