Only way it could have been better would have been the Vols hanging on against Florida, completeing the Sunshine State Trifecta. Oh well.

Small comfort, Drake, but 18 points was only a fraction of the margin of victory I expected for USC.

Michigan-MSU is a complicated relationship. We tend to regard them as our little brothers; we want them to do well, except against us. (They, of course, hate our guts.)

But, regardless of that, you are 100% correct and I hope the Irish run them off the field next week for what happened last year. Get to Stanton early, because it doesn't look like your DBs will not be up to the task of controlling the passing game.

      • I crossedited you with regard to respect v. hate.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. 18 points was pretty close to what I (and the bookies) was expecting.

              • Well, in the writer's defense, it's easy to make that mistake with Nebraska. Listing "1995" instead of "1997" as the Husker's last national title is less noticeable than listing "1948" instead of "1997" as Michigan's last national title, for example...

                        • He did indeed. I was a bit surprised when I saw that. Michigan did look pretty good, but ND made a lot of unforced errors as well.

I missed all the late night college postgame shows unfortunately, I wanted to see what people were saying.

                          • Here's an odd list.

The following teams are the only Big 12 members who remain undefeated: Missouri, Kansas State, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M. No Texas, no Oklahoma, no Nebraska, no Colorado, no Texas Tech...

The ACC has a similar rogue's gallery: Virginia Tech (fair enough), Boston College, and Wake Forest.

                            • It's not that odd. Texas, Oklahoma and Nebraska have all played tough opponents. Colorado just sucks. And Texas Tech may indeed suck, but TCU may also be legitimately good.

At any rate, I expect things to go back to normal quickly once conference-play begins.

                              • Oh, I agree with you. It's just that you generally wouldn't expect a list of undefeated teams to look like that, traditionally.

I know it'll never happen, but I'd love to see almost every conference spit out at least one undefeated team, just for the wailing and gnashing of teeth.
