      The French goverment has been actively engaged in industrial espionage for quite some time in order to benefit French companies in the competition aganst companies from the rest of the world.

      As part of this industrial espionage, they had the First and Business class seats on International Air France flights bugged (hidden listening devices and recorders).

      I believe they have since stopped after being presented with complaints and incontrovertable proof.

            As far as I know, this started under Mitterrand, but continued under Chirac (at least for a little while).
