Will9 is probably right btw, Sveaborg got bombed by a anglo-french fleet during that war.

The fortress is probably most known for the early and somewhat mysterious surrender by Constedt in the Swedish-Russian war of 1808-1809. He gave up the vital fortress after a two month siege and later got the blame for Sweden losing Finland to Russia in the peace of 1809.

As Kropotkin said, it is indeed Sveaborg/Suomenlinna. It's a World Heritage site now.

It shouldn't really be me. I just knew it was a finnish fortress from the flag - not that it was Sveaborg. Will9 gave me the war. I just checked the Wikipedia article about what occured in the baltic theater of operations during the conflict and then happend to click on to the same article you got the picture from.

For the record, I had two relatives on my Father's wife's son's (If that the correct genealogy term) side from his third marriage he never had..a son Albert yet to be named who was unborn at the time of this event and existed on in this paragraph, sort of...who were involved in this very Battle, non-combat essential type only as scribes
