The "sweet spot" problem is greatly diminished by curtains. It's only in a light room that I have problems viewing at angles more oblique (is that the right word?) than, say, 60 degrees.

What kind of sound system have you got? Or is that your next step?

            That's the next step.

Right now I'm looking at a simple Yamaha 6.1 kit.

              The 42" Westinghouse looks gorgeous.

Westinghouse has been around as a company making in electric engines/electronics for literal centuries. Not a bad name in my ear, they're mentioned in one breath with Siemens.

What that says about the quality of their audiovisual products, I do not know.

They also make nuclear stuff I think.

They don't make the panels themselves. The panel in the 42" model is chinese, IRC.

                      Yeah.

Also, just found out Toshiba owns Westinghouse now: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9595_22-6...=zdfd.newsfeed

Siemens/Westinghouse Germany experiments with fuel cells. Very 80s, I know...

YMMV. I can't and won't answer for the AQUOS.
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

While we're at it, it seems that the founder of Westinghouse shares his birthday with me

                              Westinghouse

is a brand that is so old, it's new again. Anyway, I bought one and it looks very good to me. They are significantly less than the current leading brands.
