    A very lame troll.

Let us not give any credibility to German martial achievements in WWII given the nature of the cause they fought for.

Ask the relatives of the Norlfolk and Warwick regiment prisoners machine gunned and grenaded in the Pas de Calais in 1940 if they thought the Germans were 'manly' and not 'wusses'.

A man who throws a grenade into a barn full of wounded men is the ultimate 'wuss' as far as I am concerned - no man at all in fact.

So you condemn the whole of Wehrmacht for that? Most of them were regular, brawe folk, whose heroism is marred by the cause they fought for. And not that many were particularly devout national-socialists... But, like they say, "My country, right or wrong."

And I dare anyone say the finns were wusses. We fought against 3 of the major combatants of the war, Soviet Union, Germany, and British, including some of the commonwealth. Usually undermanned, under-equipped, and often under influence.

Unfortunately, us siding, somewhat reluctantly, with the Germans at the time of Barbarossa, has somewhat diminished our reputation as a fighting nation in WWII...

I tried to put in my post the same little pinch of troll I thought you had put in yours.

My point is that even among the big players, most couldn't put up a proper fight against Germany except the US and the USSR.
Then you haven't understood mine: those who have put a proper fight against the Germans are those who could buy time: Russia by the size it's country, UK and USA by time. That is what I meant in my post.
Oh, and I forgot. Maybe most important: control of the sky.

The comparison of 250km v. 600 km is nonsensical. Had Belgium been 800km deep it would have fallen all the same.
They have not the same urban density either. That is the greatest weakness of my point.
But, that was my little troll

I think some of you underestimate the stopping power of water.
But, when you have enough ground like the USSR, water can just lose all it's power.

But my post was also against americans very proud to have defeat an army that no european could. Well, look at the timeframe and at the numbers. At the most intense period - with the help of UK - they faced 80 divisions. For Russia it was 220. And Russia never faced less than 150.

What we know from the voters is that they were against being forced to fight, not necessarily against the fight itself.

About 5 per cent of French-Canadians volunteered, compared to 10 per cent of English-Canadians. So to say that Quebecers were not very involved in the war is wrong.

You also overlook the fact that the Canadian military made it difficult for French-Canadians to serve. With the exception of the French-Canadian infantry regiments, most services required English fluency, which prevented many French-Canadians from joining.

On a similar note, the Canadian military initially refused to allow Chinese-Canadians to join. It was not until after the Pacific war started, and under pressure from Britian, that the rules were changed.

And again, you fail to explain why Quebecois owe any allegiance to France. They considered themselves Canadians.

                      :sigh:

And what do the USA and USSR have in common? Both *massive* countries with huge resources, that were destined to rule the world between them for 50 years.

One of the reasons why smaller countries couldn't face Germany head on is that Germany were armed to the teeth in preparation for a rampage through Europe under a the leadership of a psychotic thug who was able to appeal to the worst emotions of his people.

                      And you brag about it.

Nope. But as I said I think the relatives of the many Waffen SS victims in the Pas de Calais might hold a different view.

But then I had been rather annoyed by the chicken comment. The BEF was a woefully equipped force that faced utter destruction after the Germans drove a wedge between the Brits and the French. The rearguard units of the BEF (some of whom were subsequently executed by the Waffen SS in the atrocities I referred to) took part in actions as ‘heroic’ as any in the war.

                          "My country, right or wrong."
It takes far more courage to say “My country is wrong” in most circumstances.

Where and when did Finland take the field against British forces by the way???

                            • Great troll Andy!

Getting everyone to insult each other along nationalistic lines - I particularly like the bit where they ignore you in favour of their own petty little squabbles...

But, I have to say the Germans are the wusses because they ultimately had to grovel for peace (again!).

                              So to quote Jim Carrey:

                              LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-O-O-O-O-SER!
As for the Canadians - I can't believe no one mentioned their single most major contribution - the corvette!

Without their building and crewing these tough little ships the Battle of the Atlantic might have been lost...
Is it me, or is MOBIUS a horrible person?
