There are also:

(1) The Poles -- although they were rolled over in the beginning of the war because of Germany's new blitzkrieg tactics, they were heroic in taking Monte Casino in Italy and again in the Warsaw uprising.

(2) The Finns -- who initially whipped the numerically superior Soviet forces.

(3) The Greeks -- fought off the initial attack of the Italians. They were later overwhelmed by the Nazis, but when the Nazis invaded Crete, their casualties were so heavy they never mounted a major airbourn invasion again.

(4) Tito's Guerillas -- who fought valietly in the Balkans for years.

to the Brits for liberating Antwerp and to the Canadian, Brits and Poles for opening up the Scheldt.

Example: the French should be a given, but let's have a ,look at the English. They had nothing to stop the Germans in '40, and the rollback was done mainly by US forces. Learn about the war in North Africa and Burma. The UK did very well there.

I read about the Finnish battles with the Russians and thought it was very heroic.

Canadians are, have been, and likely will continue to be a non-factor.
London got it's ass kicked in bomb runs, but they shook it off. If that was all they did, it would have been worthy of praise; but it's not all they did.

I'm amused, but not surprised, by the Americans' readiness to compare absolute impact as opposed to impact compared to the size of the country

The simple fact is, Canada did what was right from the start. We threw ourselves into the war when it began. The US chose to ignore the war as long as possible until they were attacked themselves.

Canada lost more men per capita, and Canada certainly had the balls to do what was right when called upon -- something we can't say about the US. It's obvious that the US had a larger impact on the war, mainly due to the much larger size of the nation, but that doesn't have anything to do with this thread except to reinforce the concept that Americans are wusses and will do anything to hide the fact.

In terms of people.

Canada is larger in terms of area, and in ball size -- again, it was the states that was too scared of Germany to fight.
