They were told not to have any more kids because of how bad her PPD was. They went ahead and did it anyway. I damn well think he shoulda been charged with something. 2nd degree murder, engaging in behavior he knew could cause someone to be killed.

before this ladies first trial she said she knew what she did was wrong!!!!! her husband said what she did was wrong and blamed ppd. It's not a question of whether she knows now that it was wrong. Or two years ago. Her competency and culpability at the time when she committed the crime is what counts. And I don't think you can go by mentally disturbed people's self-characterizations anyway.

Saying it before a trial and knowing it at the time of the crime are two different things. Remember that she was on five anti-depressants at the time of the murders. If you need that many, there's little doubt in my mind that you have much control over your actions.

Well isn't it the purpose of five antidepressants to give the person control over their actions?

Why is it that we always assume that someone taking anitidepressants or any other mind altering drug is unable to control or understand their actions?

If they are taking them and they aren't working, why in hell are they on them?

how is it that its different after she was arrested? then when she commited the crimes. She knew what she was doing she said so! she said im killing them cause of the devil and i know it was wrong to kill them, but id rather kill them then let the devil have them! For one i dont know how any one person can be on 5 different depression medications!, one or two at i time i have seen but never 5 at one time. And if in fact she was on medication at the time of the murders would that have one assume she was ok then
Edit: I dont agree with the husband on most of his actions but he is now in the firing range for divorcing the lady! By her lawyers and their media publicity. I agree he should be held responsibile for allowing this woman to remain in care of those kids, but on the other hand he might have thought her to be ok and thought the 5 meds were working

The antidepressants, in themselves don't make someone lucid, they won't correct the existing mental problems. They are a tool, like a cane in that they help to improve functioning.

Secondly, just because she killed her kids does not make her automatically insane. There are plenty of rational folks who make the decision to kill their kids for a variety of selfish or cruel reasons.

Just because someone is depressed does not mean that they have lost all ability to tell right from wrong, or to restrain their own actions. Yates got away with murder but the cost is that she won't see the outside of a padded cell in the psycho ward.
