Great. So have Israel return the Farms to Syrian control, and let Syria and Lebanon sort it out. Simple enough, no?

          • In more news, the Lebanese government seems to be ordering its forces to fight the IDF if the IDF invades southern Lebanon. Of course, if Lebanon is to take soverign control of the south, protecting all its citizens, including the southern Shia, would be its reponsibility, including fighting any foreign invaders (ie. the IDF).

BUt cheering the IDF are the Salafists (according to the NYTimes), who see the Shia's as heretics. Good to see the US and Israel in agreement with the Salafist movement on something. Building bridges (well, blowing up actual ones, building rhetorical ones)

Good to see people being bourhg together by this insanity....

How are they going to do that? If the army moves to the border, Israel wouldn't invade - that's their primary goal. If the army can't move south, then, it's an empty threat.

There are some Lebanese army force in the south, just not at the border. Those could fight. Last time Israel invaded it went all the way to Beirut, so the "threat" depends on the scope of the operation Israel carries out. Certainly given the scope of Israel's destruction of infrasctructure, large amounts of Lebanese forces can;t move south to do anything, be it fight Israel or disarm HIzbullah.

The greater point is that the Lebanese government is now siding with their fellow Lebanese in Hizbullah. Given the current rhetoric, I fail to see the current government deciding at any point under IDF fire to agree to Israel's terms.

Given their campaign to get all the civilians to flee the south, I suspect they're just going to sweep through and try to wipe out any Hezbollah resistance - and, more importantly, rockets.
