and went full steam ahead with the propaganda. You've fallen into the reactionary camp of criticizing Israel for doing what the government of Isreal deemed necessary in the face of provokation that would lead any nation on Earth to war with a neighbour.

    Huh?
I was talking about Plato's "teaching a lesson" ramblings. NOT about Israel's actual strategy. The only moment I spoke about Israel in my reply (though, upon re-reading it, it isn't clear enough), was to say that his support for Israel creates strong emotions, and that these emotions lead him to say such tripe.

I don't think his post mirrors Israel's strategy, fortunately. Because the logic he presented (which is not the focus of Israel in this war IMO) is ucking murderous. Any force that follows such logics and acts on it would deserve to be called terorirstic.
And your support of Lebanon has led you the other way.

    Stop the presses!

Uh, no. The GoL does have the physical ability to disarm Hezbollah. Hezbollah's continued miltary presence has to do with Lebanon's claim on the Shebaa farms. Israel claims they are part of occupied Syria. Syria was verbally stated that they are part of Lebanon, but as Syria doesn't recognize Lebanon's right to exist*, it really doesn't recognize Lebanon as owning the farms.

        * Syria claims Lebanon, Jordan, and Israel, saying, rightfully, that the other territories were split off by foreign powers, and Syria never agreed.

Yeah, cuz that's what Hezbollah's doing, cuz those rockets can reach all the way from Beruit and Tyre to Israel. I guess that buffer zone Israel's going to create isn't really worth much. Poor Lebanese, being slaughtered for nothing.

Thanks for making the case for me.

Now, how do you explain countless Lebanese maps, including those of the military, as showing the Farms in Syria?

How do you dismiss the UN saying the area is Syrian?

How do you explain the GoL picking up on this lunacy to keep the war going?

                      Hezbollah's HQ isn't in Beruit?

Hezbollah hasn't built bunkers under populated areas?

If Israel makes a buffer zone - and I don't think it is - I don't see why it would be worthless. The vast majority of Hezbollah's rocket's are short range, IIUC. And the further back Hezbollah would need to fire from, the less area of Israel it would be able to target.

Lebanon has been claiming the Shebaa Farms since 2000 when Isreal pulled out of Lebanon in opposition to the UN's view at the time, not "just to keep the war going" now

On 16 May 2000 the Syrian Foreign Minister, Farouq al-Shara, confirmed to Annan that the Syrian Arab Republic supported Lebanon's claim.[1]

UN Secretary-General's report on Lebanon explicitly stated: "The continually asserted position of the Government of Lebanon that the Blue Line is not valid in the Shab'a farms area is not compatible with Security Council resolutions.

Did you forget that Isreal already tried the buffer zone thing?

"On 15 May 2000, the United Nations received a map, dated 1966, from the Government of Lebanon which reflected the Government's position that these farmlands were located in Lebanon. However, the United Nations is in possession of 10 other maps issued after 1966 by various Lebanese government institutions, including the Ministry of Defense and the army, all of which place the farmlands inside the Syrian Arab Republic. The United Nations has also examined six maps issued by the Government of the Syrian Arab Republic, including three maps since 1966, which place the farmlands inside the Syrian Arab Republic."[1]

Since 2000 you say? Those damned Israelis!
