      • Maybe Chirac told him, that he just missed a good opportunity to STFU.

            • There were plenty of glaring errors in that article, but it was vaguely amusing, especially for the "if this player were in an American sport he'd be....." stuff, although a lot of them meant nothing to me.

Well, I believe he got most of the information from all the emails from fans he got (thousands from what it seems like).

As for Materazzi... seeing how he got 2 game ban and almost the same amount of fine Zidane got, it had to be fairly beyond the pail (perhaps the lip reader saying something about hoping his family dies), even if not racist.

Spurs fans have never been short of misery. In fact, we enjoy it. That's why next season is going to be so good. After our brilliance last year we sort of think we might do well again next year, but of course we'll flop totally. It'll be ****ing ace.
If I'm posting here then Counterglow must be down.

                  • Well you didn't get Duff so it looks a little more likely now...

I hate to say it, but you really have to hand it to Arsenal for putting on such a show for Bergkamp's testimonial.

Shame the football is not up to (Mein)kamp(f)'s old standard.

                    • Great that Johan Cruiyff and Marco van Basten came on for Ajax. Credit too for Edgar Davids for playing the Pantomime Villan. Grimandi did a great job stopping him scoring, and good cricket from de Boer to sky the penalty like that. Too bad the Ajax goalie didn't let Dennis score at the end.

They wouldn't be the Spurs without nearly signing top players. Who was it they nearly signed last year? Figo, Raul ...

                          Could be worse.

At least he's not using the "World Football" thread to discuss club-level sport.

You really are a character, sir. [/Maltese Falcon]

This is the 'Football' thread, where football is discussed. It started life as banter ground for mainly supporters of English clubs slagging each other off, and all coming together to all moan about how much money Chelsea have got.

It has to be called 'World Football', because the mighty ole You Ess of Aye has it's own sport, also called 'Football', and despite the very obvious fact that the threads on American Football should be called 'American Football' threads, our chief and much-respected overlord here, who is a fan of American Football, has decided otherwise.

That is why we are not allowed to call the Football Thread the Football Thread.

Check out football writer Duleep Allirajah on this subject:

                                After the Headbutt, the Fallout.

He is defending the use of verbals in the game as a great leveller. I can't say that I agree with him fully, but like it or not the wind-up has been part of the game for a very long time.
