World Football Thread XIV - Italy: Hail to the Champions
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.
"I hope I get to punch you in the face one day" - MRT144, Imran Siddiqui
'I'm fairly certain that a ban on me punching you in the face is not a "right" worth respecting." - loinburger
I don't think so. I doubt France would have scored in the last 10 minutes, Zizou or not.
And Trézéguet would have still shot his penalty shootout. And the pressure on him would have been the same.
All the rest (about pressure on the Italian players) is purely theoretical.
Since penalties are about 10% skill and 90% psychology I'd say getting your star and natural leader send of in the last phase of the game will always influence the series becouse it changes the spirit of the team and therefore the individual players.
And how many of that other 50% - not to mention that there's only a handfull around here - have even come close to clicking this thread, you think?
Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent. Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? Is he neither able nor willing?
Then why call him God? - Epicurus
The final confirmation that Echty has a crush on Cannavaro, and maybe on the whole team Italy

Bingo. I'd be surprised if a single member of the female gender has ever clicked on a "World Football Thread" since its inception.

After the World Cup, Bill Simmons decided to pick an English Premier League team to root for. It was an exhaustive process.

I don't recall seeing mention here of Bruce Arena getting hired by the NY Red Bulls. Didn't take long after US Soccer announced he wasn't going to be back.
Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety. - Ben Franklin Iain Banks missed deadline due to Civ | The eyes are the groin of the head. - Dwight Schrute.

Well that was the big rumor. After all, MLS wants a successful team in NY. The Metrostars/Red Bulls have been horrid in their 11 year history... and Arena is the greatest coach in US Soccer history, not just in the national level, but in the college ranks (with UVa) and the MLS (the DC United Championships were with Arena as the manager).
