Sure he's no angel. But he isn't some petty stadium bully either. He got his punishment (a red card) that nobody opposes.

OTH, if Materazzi indeed provoked him with racist remarks, he should be punished as well, and so does his team if the rules mention that the punishment is team-wide

    • I fully agree that he is no angel, but he has dignity.

On the other hand Matarazzi represents a lot of what is wrong with foorball. Trash talk and diving.

It's not a wonder that Zizou would be very welcome to play in North America. While what he did was stupid, it is understandable.

What Matarazzi did was predictable (unfortunately) and despicable. He'd be booed out of many if not most NA stadia.

        You've just described the English.

          • Good. Actually, I think most people are somewhere along those lines.

            • Matarazzi is a very good player to have on your team, getting Zizou send off effectivly won Italy the championship.

In the end its only the result that counts....

I don't think so. I doubt France would have scored in the last 10 minutes, Zizou or not.

And Trézéguet would have still shot his penalty shootout. And the pressure on him would have been the same.

All the rest (about pressure on the Italian players) is purely theoretical.

                  Indeed you might.

But I'd say cow hockey's more likely.

ZZ fooked up, don't blame Matterazzi.

                  Thats the game mate.

I'm not gonna waste time criticising Pazzorazzi.

"The game" has rules. According to those rules, Italy must be disqualified if there is proof of a racist complaint.

We can go on forever about the pro's & con's of PC madness, but them's the rules.

Funny thing is, even after we lost, I was still keen on the Italian team. We had Italy on the ropes and got screwed by the ref - didn't bother me. Even those tragic, outmoded silvery numbers on their uniforms didn't put me off.

They looked classy and talented. Pirlo was creating beautiful plays. Buffo seemed to have a great sense of fun and humour. Even Totti, I dunno. There was something I just liked about him. That rough, unshaven jaw-line, that hint of a scowl he carried with him. I swear, you could smell the pheromones from all the way over here.

But by the time the final was done? I wouldn't have wasted good sputum on those limp-wristed poofs.

It's not like the French ever impressed me.
But how can you not like a nation with such a flair for goats?

I wasn't trying to be catty about Ice Hockey. I've nothing against it, and was just genuinely interested how the banter works.

                          • Tons of transfer speculation over Juve going down to B. Cannavaro to Madrid is being reported all over the place and rumblings that ManU and 'Pool want in on it. Rumors suggest that Rafa Benitez wants Trezeguet. A lot of English clubs will be following the appeal it seems.
