  • Yeah... another good game last night. I thought they could pull it out. Sigh....

I think we are going to have score "some" runs to win today. Because Vasquez truly sucks

      • Very much! He's a really, really good player.

        Ming,

Well, the way the home plate umps have been in the first two games (erratic, tight zones), you just never know. Moose can get rattled if he doesn't get some calls he thinks he should get.

Seriously, though, I've seen some pitches right down the middle over the last two games that were called balls.

And MAN do balls fly out of that park.

        • I personally think the home plate umpires during this series have been blind. It is probably the most inconsistent strike zone I've ever seen. Two pitches to the exact same place get called both ways... I would be very pissed if I was a pitcher.

And yeah... it's a "hitters" park

          • Good to see you agree. I was wondering if something was wrong with my vision, or maybe that the CF camera was way offline or something. Obviously I noticed it more when the Yankees were pitching, but there were missed calls for both sides all over the place. Mariano threw three pitches in a row to the EXACT same spot. Strike one. Strike two. Ball one.

            • Ming, what a difference a year makes. Last year, the Sox had pitiching. This year they have virtually the same staff, but none of them, save Jenks and Garland, are pitching very well. What's up?

              • There were some people who suggested last year that the Sox were getting some career year fluke performances, especially in the pitching department.

It would seem that there is some validity to that idea.

Also, the Sox played insanely good defense last year... so good, in fact, that it was impossible for them to equal it. They're still an excellent defensive team. A small downturn in the defense also increases the pressure on the pitching staff.

Yeah... some of them did have career years last year.
But you have to wonder. I've heard the ole, tired arm argument. They did pitch a lot of innings last year. All four of the big guns were over 200 innings.

And yes, the defense also isn't as good as last year.

But who really knows the "reason". Maybe it's just a little bit of everything... Because they do suck this year

                  • But, thanks to some sloppy fielding and a few critical pitches by our old friend Javy Vasquez (ugh), the White Sox pulled out a series win.

What was it, 5 hits + 6 walks in 5 innings, with 8ks? 11 baserunners in 5 innings... 2 runs. Meh.

Mussina pitched very well, I thought, and was royally screwed by his defense.

                    Speaking of the Royals...

Ah - poo. Still, three outta four from the Mets isn't bad.

                              And Howard hit number 42.
