Yep... I could be worse... there is really NO reason to watch the Cubs at the moment. Thank God for the White Sox.

    • Ah, Lieber. The guy Yankee fan friends of mine apparently STILL wanted back, as late as the trading deadline. I kept saying "yeah, but have you noticed how he's pitched this year?" and all I get in response was "but he was good for us." Oy.

Anyway, between Howard and Utley, there are positives about that team. There always seems to be a dark cloud of doom hanging over them, though. It's too bad.

      • Andrew Jones may be dealt by 1 PM tomorrow (at the least, it seems the Braves won't be able to resign him before he becomes an unrestricted free agent after next season, which is why they are trying to deal him now before his 10/5 rights come into play):

Braves center fielder Andruw Jones has been claimed on waivers, but it's not clear which team has claimed the eight-time Gold Glove winner, ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney reports.

I just wanted to be the one to quote that. Honestly, I've never had a problem with this site or its moderators.

Lieber is INJURED and showing it. I won't comment on the "dark cloud" because... ya know... superstition and all that.

            • You know, it's pretty amazing that a closer can give up a dinger and still have an ERA of .64. That's absurd. Still, happily for me and other Yankees fans, the guy the Red Sox brought in to pitch the tenth isn't nearly as good. Thank you, Julian.

Now the Yanks play the White Sox and the (Red) Sox play the Royals. I'm thinking the Sox pick up a game. The Royals are terrible. The ChiSox are still a good team.

Yep... winning their latest series by going 2 - 1. However, no sweeps. And that means they are still losing ground The central is one hell of a division this year... not counting KC

                • Yeah, the Central is solid, in spite of the godawful thing known as the Royals (and things might be looking ever so slightly up for that franchise). The East is also a good division (Tampa is bad, but better than the Royals, and the Orioles are bad, worse than the Indians). The West is a bit crap, though.

                  • Well that sucked. I had a feeling that when the Yanks failed to get Cano home from 3rd with one out it would come back to bite them. Sure enough, Mo gave up his 2nd HR this year (he's slipping!! ) and then the ChiSox pulled it out in the 11th. Proctor pitched well, I thought, and got a bit unlucky with a couple of defensive plays that, while very difficult, could have been made. Great game, overall. Posada nailed 3 runners trying to steal 2nd. He's been really good this year.

Luckily for the Yanks, the Red Sox failed to capitalized on the situation, and lost to the Royals.

                    • Yeah... you got lucky with the Royals winning...
It was a great game last night. I just couldn't go to bed until was over. Glad to see the White Sox pull it out.

And yeah... Mo giving up a HR in a save situation... SWEET!

                      • Not a good pitch... looked like a cutter that didn't cut. Konerko did a good job with it. Mo and then Proctor did well after that, but obviously the Sox had the advantage, being at home and with Giambi out of the game. Plus, even if Proctor had wriggled out of the 11th, then the Yanks would've had to score and then have Sidney Ponson hold the lead?

                          • Of course. Jenks is NASTY btw. It was wierd in the 10th, though, because Jenks and Proctor pitched so similarly... both blowing 95 mph fastballs by guys up in the zone, and dropping nasty breaking pitches in for strikes as well (though Jenks' breaking pitch is nastier than Proctor's). The pitch Jenks k'd Abreu on was filthy.

                              • Well now, that's better. I nearly had a heart attack last night, after Farnsworth(less) nearly blew the game, but Mariano held on. And then Papelbon blows a save and loses to KC... gravy! I gather Manny gets an assist on that one. 3 games up.

Two straight one-run nailbiters in Chicago. Hopefully the Yanks will beat up on Vasquez tonight (they friggin' better. We owe him a beatdown, and he's got an ERA of ~5).
