As a tangent, from technical standpoint I think that's pretty impressive. While that's not quite as good as actually working in the field, it's a difficult feat on it's own from what I understand.

    • Just in case this had not been made clear enough.... the U.S. military has scripted or flat our RIGGED tests to intercept missles, for decades. We can't do it with any sort of dependability, or at least not as of the last time the military rigged it a year and a half ago(which they anounced-in not so many words).

          • There is no sea only route.

I assume Japan is worried that DPRK technology isn't sufficient to guarantee the missile won't come crashing down on Japan.

That doesn't seem like so much, especially over that timescale.

There's probably a far greater chance of some satellite come crashing down in Japan than DPRK's missile.

                      • Ummm... No. This is a staged rocket. It sheds chunks of metal as it gains velocity. Those chunks of metal hit the ocean/ground with a thud/splash.

A satellite is going orbital velocity and will burn up in the atmosphere as it loses velocity on deorbit.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

none of it matters anyway. in the very unlikely event that a spent stage crashes into japan and even kills people it's not like anything could be done to get north korea to pay any sort of restitution to the victims. They wouldn't even apologize I'm sure.

They could, but the point is probably that they want to have Japan and others worrying.....

                            • Will Australia overtake Japan as East Asian great power before they all get totally bogged down by China?
