I've always wondered how you Germans spelled that and what it's supposed to mean. In the US we say 'God bless you' when someone sneezes and I don't know why we do that either.

You know, if North Korea managed to capture Seoul, they'd have a heck of a time controlling their soldiers, who'll have just found more food and more booze than they've ever seen in their lives. Granted, they're fanatical, but still.

Huh. I wonder if, in the event of an invasion from the north, declaring it an open city and taking it back later would save it from being shelled out of existance by all that artilery the north has pointed at it.

I don't see much benefit in feeding all those northern soldiers.

Personally I think, Japan does need to beef up its defensive capabilities, but I'm terribly wary of a potential rise of militarism again. That said, even though they ought to arm themselves, I cannot forsee a situation where that wouldn't cause an arms race in East Asia.

I think we're in general agreement on this, although I'm probably less wary of Japan than you are. Right now, in terms of threats to peace in Northeast Asia, it's Koreans > Chinese > Japanese. I don't see that changing anytime soon even if the Japanese remilitarize.
