  • I've been watching TV with commentary from the radio. Much better.

With digital TV you can also watch with no commentary, just stadium noise.

Fanzone commentary can be classic to listen to too. The two commentators being members of the public, each of whom is an avid supporter of one of the teams. Hilarity and taunting ensues as and when goals are scored

    • Terry Butcher's comments on Crouch and the referee from the BBC (they have the games online and I'm looking for alternate sound).

I thought Peter Crouch did very well, leading the line and holding the ball up. It didn't help that he had to contend with one of the most bizarre refereeing performances I have ever seen, which meant he was constantly penalised and picked up a yellow card.
Its good to see I'm not the only one who felt that way.
We need seperate human-only games for MP/PBEM that dont include the over-simplifications required to have a good AI

      • I heard that that ref had been dropped by the Mexican league for excessive carding. The only reason he is in the World Cup was because submissions could not be changed.

I'm unlikely to pick up radio here unless you know an online station that's carrying the sound.

I have digital TV but I dont know how to keep the stadium sound. Its prob a european thing

Used to do that as well, but at least where I live there's a few seconds discrepency between the TV signal and radio signal and I hate hearing a goal has been scored before the shot is taken on the telly...

                I fully agree.

The only good thing that bad commentotors bring is in a dull game, and at least one get to shout at them instead of the guys at the pitch

                • It's a shame that Iran are getting their asses handed to them, because I thought that they were doing well until an hour or so had passed. Although their ingenious technique of clearing the ball merely by hoofing it back to the opposition on the half-way line does smack of York City.

Anyway, I'm impressed that the guy leading the line for the Swiss also has inventing Dungeons and Dragons on his CV. Nice work - makes him popular with the jocks and the nerds.

After 25 years my wife is well used to me yelling at the TV.

                      • Iran were surprisingly good. Well, in the first half, for the last 30 minutes they played quite poorly. Still, they were entertaining to watch.

                        • The first half they had some good chances vs. Mexico, the second half they sat back on their own area and I think maybe ventured towards the Mexican goal once..Mexico was constantly on the attack, and something was bound to happen. Stupid mistake by the Iranian goalkeeper-he should have just grabbed that ball to clear the area.

Thankfully commentators is Spanish do a good job and are funny to boot.

                          • I thought Iran were not as good as in 2002, where their game against the USA was one of the matches of the tournament, IIRC.

Mexico produced in the end, but relied on a GK error for the breakthrough. Lots of nice passes sprayed around the pitch, but not enough penetration. Portugal will find life easy in this group, I expect.
