You are equating homosexuality with bad in that context, not me.
No, Sava.
Gay meant homosexual for decades before it was introduced as an insult. The insult is directly derived from its meaning of "homosexual". It is, by transitivity (which I do understand is an extremely difficult concept for children under the age of 12 or otherwise mentally disabled and cannot think abstractly), saying "homosexual" is an insult.
It's not that gays go around finding ways to be insulted, it's that the homophobic society spawned "gay" as an insult, and through repetition now people who claim to accept gays still use it as an insult -- but only people who aren't intelligent enough to understand what they're doing.

When we get to the point where gay people put themselves out there and market their gayness, they cease to have a right to be offended
Oh, there's another spectacular argument. Because some execs saw a market for effeminate gay men making over people and their apartments, gay people cannot be offended anymore?
Actually, I find the Queer Eye for the Straight Guy offensive in the sense that it perpetuates the effeminate stereotype that doesn't even encompass most gays, just the obvious one.

Yeah. I thought the exact same thing when the show came on the air.

People who have a problem with that should build a bridge and get over it.
So if we change the word Finn to mean f***ing ******, you'll be fine with that?
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
So it's acceptable to say: "Don't Jew me outta my money." Don't Welsh on our deal." "Indian-giver." "I got my stereo ******-rigged to my computer."
I think not. In my time, when someone said something was gay as derrogatory, it was meant with a direct cononation to homosexuality being stupid. Twenty years later, just cuz *******s don't know the origins doesn't mean it isn't just as insulting.

It's like talking to a brick wall, Asher.
A lot of Republicans are not racist, but a lot of racists are Republican.

One time I was talking to some other guy at a bar, we were eating at the bar, and then he made the comment about how bad his neighborhood is lately. I asked him what, specifically was bad about it and he said that it got all "******ed up."
I expressed my disgust with his remark, and picked up my food to sit with a couple of friends. I have never talked with that guy ever since although I still see him at the bars sometimes but I avoid him.
But I guess given what some others in here have said about the deragatory use of the word "gay" I am not to be offended by such use. So yeah, following that logic, I should not have been offended by that racist remark from that guy.

Didn't we all already point out there is an obvious difference in intent between using a derogatory term specifically to insult a person and using a derogatory term in a general negative sense?
You all do indeed have valid points. But the fact that calling a black person a ****** is a bad thing is not one of those points. There is a difference.
And Asher, don't tell us about transitivity. It's not a difficult concept to understand. We get it. But way to go insulting your opponents when trying to tell them that they're insulting you. Oh the ****ing irony.
Using transitivity in order to equate gay as a bad word to gay people are bad requires the use of reason. You have to, as you said, think abstractly about it and then make the connection in your head. And because reason is involved, you have a choice. You can choose to think of it as an insult, or you can choose not to think of it as an insult.
Just because some people choose not to think of it as an insult does not mean they're too ****ing stupid to see the alternative choice.
