It would be interesting to see how much of a mention Harvey Milk gets in California school history classes.
For some reason I always thought the name Milk even sounded gay. Same goes for Sharon Bottoms, the lesbian who was in a landmark custody case in 1995.

Like Normal history but mentioning:
Well kids, Alexander ( by the way, bisexual) was the son of King Phillip II....etc, and then continue with normal history ?
Not only was Harvey Milk never mentioned in my classes, I have absolutely no clue who he is.

Harvey Milk was a gay rights activist who became a locally prominent politician in San Francisco during the 1970s. He ran for representation of one of the wards/districts of San Francisco and won the election.
Another SF representative of another ward/district, Dan White, shot and killed Harvey Milk in his office, and also shot and killed the mayor of SF on that same day.

gay history is about as useful as black history.
I'm sure you guys will say I'm a racist. But I see little point in black history. All it does is divide the races up. You don't see Asian history in schools. It's all appeasement to make minority groups feel better.
ALL history should be taught. No matter who made the history.

When ALL history IS taught, then you can complain about special catagories of history. I would perfer an integrated history course for all students, but since that isn't happening, this is better than nothing.

Are there any major American historical figures who were gay? Harvey Milk was hardly a major figure, though the case of Harvey Milk and dan White is sort of historically interesting. Dan White claimed that he was under the influence of twinkies when he shot Mr. Milk. Considering his crime he got a very light sentence , but after his release he committed suicide.
A visit to Williamsburg to a real early American inn would show you why it's ludicrous to claim that any early American sharing a bed with a person of the same sex was gay. At that time people staying at an inn rented a place in a bed, not a whole room. You slept with whomever else was staying at the inn. Finer inns would seperate men from women. Kids slept under the bed, in a Trundle Bed. It is utterly certain that most of the founding fathers not from Philadelphia slept together. Most early American congressmen probably did so also, as well as any politician who went campaigining.
