  • California and Gay History

History courses used to either exclude blacks, Amerindians, and women from history and when they were included in history classes, the amount of space for them was negligible. Since the Civil Rights movement though, Americans have come to acknowledge that these Americans are part of our country's history.

So I guess someday people will realize that gay Americans are part of our country's history as well.

Gays aren't gross. Mr Fun might be. That's your call.

How it all started in California, was the sight of all those migrant farm workers bent over.

        No, that's a lie.

Oh, you mean those migrant farmers from Oklahoma during the Dust Bowl years?

Ok, so notable historical figures who are also gay aren't being mentioned? Or the fact that they are gay isn't being mentioned?

Maybe Cali should allow same-sex marriage (like Mass.) before it worries about this stuff.

Its like teaching that the slaves are our equals before you actually free them.

Cali needs to walk the walk before it can talk the talk.

SACRAMENTO, Sept. 1 -- The California Senate voted Thursday to allow gay couples to wed, becoming the first legislative body in the nation to approve same-sex marriage without a court order.
Once again Cali leads the way.

But we know who stopped the bill in its tracks.

                        Yeah, so?

The US was one of the first countries to consider adopting the metric system. It never did, now its one of the last not to.

Court order or not, Mass. did it. Cali hasn't yet. I'm just saying that equal rights should be the priority here.

Edit: Not that bringing this stuff up in school could ever be a bad thing, though.

The majority of our population, including the freakin Senate, supported the bill.

It was the Governor, who is beholden to a political party and idealology, who vetoed it.

So don't blame it on the rest of us when one man (who is very unpopular with the population) stopped the bill.

So, no "so" for you. We're always ahead of the curve whether you like it or not.

that could backfire in horribly predictable ways though.

Then where are all the mass protests in the streets against it? What happened to those famous Cali referendums? Surely you can admit that there is either some degree of opposition or apathy among the population that you're not accounting for.

I'm just saying Cali isn't as ahead of the curve as it thinks.
