The thing I really hate is how the "activists" are telling kids not to go to school and instead would like to see them roaming the streets or sitting at home watching opera. It's not like Latino kids have much breathing room when it comes to education because they have some of the highest drop out rates and lowest test scores of any ethnic group (slightly higher then blacks on average but far behind Whites, Asians, and even Native Americans).

At least Cardinal Mahoney is trying to convince parents to keep their children in school and to attend rallies after school is out.

Next to nothing. That day will undoubtablely have major sales declines but let's face it people still need to buy stuff so all they'll do is pull sales forward a day or push their purchases back until after their May Day protest. Net sales are unlikely to change.

It depends on how many actually follow the boycott. If a lot of people jump on board it may make a few people realize how important immigrants are to the US economy.
Two rallies are planned in L.A. The afternoon rally backed by Cardinal Mahoney and Major Villaraigosa is expected to exceed 500,000.

There is actually a legitimate point to this, other than raising awareness. If it goes the way its planners want it to go, it will show their importance to the economy. Some in and out of Congress believe that we can basically ship 11 million people out of the country, and things will go on as normal. Hopefully, Monday will show that to be a impossible.

How do you get either "extortion" or "bullying" out of a political rally against proposed legislation?

this will really show the US how worthwhile it is to have illegals living in this country!

Prove to us how little you work!

I support open borders among the NAFTA countries including free movement of labor but I do not like how the latino activists insist on using the blanket term "immigrants" we we know damn well the legislation only deals with illegal aliens who have broken the law.

That provision never passed. The Senate refused to pass it and rightly so.

It was lovely hearing the national anthem in Spanish.

My forebears came from Germany, Norway and Denmark, but it's nigh impossible to find the national anthem in those languages. I feel so excluded when I listen to the radio nowadays.

The enforcement only bill from the House has passed the House but the Senate has not passed anything since the Republicans wouldn't agree to standard language forbidding new amendments being slipped in during the confrence.

Squeeky wheel gets the grease. If no one ever complained, we'd still have kings and feudalism.
