Wiggy's pathetic troll that I want "equal rights for, at least for homosexuals" REALLY makes NO sense since my concern with polygamy is that it reinforces inequality in regards to straight women.

And not in any sort of "zomfg teenager just realized that religion is an easy target for criticism" sort of way. A religion that asserts the existence of a God, and little more, isn't stupid. Something convoluted like the Gospel is.
Hmm, not really. You had a nice illusionist rolled up, you could bring him back.

This description, that of "society shutting down for five days", is not apt of America. Why is it, then, that we're the ones accused of being a "theocracy"?
Good question.
Here you can't even get a fresh newspaper on these "holy" days. But still it doesn't feel like a theocracy at all. Very few people here go to church, even for easter or christmas.
Though I think that it is pretty retarded to call America a theocracy, it does seem like religion has a relatively big influence on politics there. In Scandinavia with state churches it's pretty much the other way around. The big and awesome exception of course being all the holidays, but I guess strong unions etc have something to do with it too.
I think it helps religion in America to have no state religion.
In europe, religion got intwined in politics, and came out the worst for it.

Because you're a confused theocracy.
Easter is not given the same prominence among many of the main US protestant groups as among Catholics or many of the main European protestant groups (especially the national churches, which are very similar to the Catholics in terms of devotional issues, and which greatly differ only in terms of structural issues).
Instead, Christmas is given much higher importance in the US, which is very odd.

It's because of our materialism.

That's funny.
Western European countries seem to be much more secular in politics than United States. And I think that makes Western European countries better, not worse.

If Christmas falls on a Saturday, we get Friday off. If on a Sunday, we get Monday off.
Btw, AFAIK, that's the only federal holiday in the US that has the capacity to fall on a weekend (yes, Easter is NOT a federal holiday). Every other falls on a Monday.
I thought New Years Day and the 4th of July were considered Federal Holidays. They can fall on a weekend.

Never seen that before. If Christmas falls on either Saturday or Sunday, we get Monday off. I didn't think we were any different from the US in that regard.

Well, except that it's not mandated except for Federal employees. There's nothing in the US' laws that specify that any dates are "work free" holidays for private businesses. A business can (and many do) have no Holiday days and there's no legal issue.

Oh yeah... forgot those.
