I have a feeling we haven't heard the last of this. Also, any government coaliton would appear to be very vulnerable in that House of Deputies.

It's really sad when after all this time it still seems like Italy won't be getting rid of Berlusconi.
Cake and grief counseling will be available at the conclusion of the test. Thank you for helping us help you help us all!

Yeah who cares about breaking the Constitution in order to defeat him, all that matters is that Berlusconi is seating on another side of the Parliament now
I will never understand why some people on Apolyton find you so clever. You're predictable, mundane, and a google-whore and the most observant of us all know this. Your battles of "wits" rely on obscurity and whenever you fail to find something sufficiently obscure, like this, you just act like a 5 year old. Congratulations, molly.

          Who exactly broke the constitution?

Claiming victory has no legal value. Heck, you can claim that you're Italy's new prime minister if you wish

                      Italy what are you doing!!!

You have a chance to get rid of this international problem maker (NOT SOLVER) that no one likes, so what do you do? Vote him back in? Please no.. Italians, I place my trust on you.

Hasn't he been in the spotlight for too long? Please, this man is a menace, don't elect him. Please. How can we make fun of Dubya when we elect Berlusconi for yet another rampage of weirdness? How long is Europe going to be dominated by Berlusconi-Chirac duo? It's a joke, you guys know that, right? It's a joke.

Breaking the constitution to defeat him?? Uh? Berlusconi's coalition received less votes, period. That means losing the elections imo.

The Union has the majority of seats in the Lower and Upper Chambers both, so I really do not know what are you complaining about.

Has Berlusconi given up yet? I personally can't see him accepting that he's lost very easily.

This whole performance has been worthy of a banana republic, though. Poor Italy.

I'm complaining as Prodi claimed victory BEFORE the overall votes were counted. At the moment of the announcement, the centre-right had the majority at the Senate and a slight minority at the Parliament. This morning Unione had an advantage for the number of the senators, as votes coming from abroad gave a bonus. Still, CDL has more votes than them AND they don't have 50% in any of the two.

The Constitution says that in order to win the elections, a party MUST have the 50% plus one vote in BOTH.

If you claim victory when you have a majority of 49,8% and a minority (even with more senators) of 48%, to say that you are the winner is illegal. Why can't we have a german-like large coalition?
