Speaking of weird **** to just throw out there, the strangest song I've ever actually heard:

    "California Uber Alles"

    I am Governor Jerry Brown
    My aura smiles
    And never frowns
    Soon I will be president...

Carter Power will soon go away
I will be Fuhrer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school
Your kids will meditate in school!

    [Chorus:]
    California Uber Alles
    California Uber Alles
    Uber Alles California
    Uber Alles California

    Zen fascists will control you
    100% natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face

Close your eyes, can't happen here
Big Bro' on white horse is near
The hippies won't come back you say
Mellow out or you will pay
Mellow out or you will pay!

    [Chorus]

    Now it is 1984
    Knock-knock at your front door
    It's the suede/denim secret police
They have come for your uncool niece

    Come quietly to the camp
You'd look nice as a drawstring lamp
    Don't you worry, it's only a shower
For your clothes here's a pretty flower.

    DIE on organic poison gas
    Serpent's egg's already hatched
You will croak, you little clown
When you mess with President Brown
When you mess with President Brown
    -Arrian

Actually, I think they would be amazed at how far we've come.

                    Level of intrusion?

What is it with conservatives and their persecution complex? How does "THE GOVERNMENT" intrude upon your daily life? You know who intrudes upon my daily life? Private companies... telemarketers... advertisements...

Come to think of it... of all the things I have to worry about, the government is pretty low on the list. But then again, I don't have a persecution complex.

Oh, and I also smoke a lot of weed. So one would think I'd be more paranoid. But I guess not.

The mere thought of using police powers to enact income tax I'm sure would absolutely horrify them.
Actually, considering the relative level of wealth that we enjoy, I don't think they'd mind. And after a quick history lesson about the evolution of the federal government, I think they would understand the need for it. Thomas Paine especially...

I likewise hold they would consider the extent of government today as an OVEREXTENSION and ABUSE of power of the governement as imposed upon the citizenry.
What are you talking about? We're more free than we were 230 years ago. Oh wait... the only thing is, rich white males have to pay.... INCOME TAX... OH THE HORROR...

But there are some books I can recommend if you are so inclined.

You know, reading? Letters that form words, sentences, left to right... etc...

By choice... because I'm dealing with depression... the alternative is suicide.

At 19, I made $35k gross (my 1999 tax return) working part time, also while going to school.

By 23, even with hockey and school, I still managed to have nearly 6 figures in savings (when I started working at 15) when I had my "breakdown" and had to move back home.

My problem is motivation and a cycle of chronic depression... not parenting.

In fact, without my parents, I'd probably be dead right now.

All part and parcel of free commerce which surprisngly they seemed to be all for.

But your right the government doesn't intrude at all. After all its not like the governement to regulates what can and can't be said on the radio and TV airwaves, or that they say what we can and can not ingest, smoke and where that can be done. But maybe they also do good things like instruct us on who can and can not get married. Or how maybe for grins and giggles its best that they tell us we can't send our kids to better schools then the ****e holes they are districted into.

Yep we need to make sure we have taken every responsibility/freedom and pissed it away in favor of mommy and daddy governement telling us what to do and when to do it.

Shame. It would appear paranoia is not setting but lethargy is.

I can't help you if you can't understand theoretical tax rates verses actual tax rates (after decutions and the like)

                                Sava,

I have a friend from college who was depressed, living with his parents and smoking a ton of weed ("was" because I've actually lost touch w/him... last spoke to him a year or two ago).

It's just my opinion, but it seemed to me that the incessant weed smoking was a major contributor to the depression/lack of motivation (which kinda go hand in hand, don't they?). I'm not against smoking weed recreationally, but this guy was smoking 2-3 times per day, every day.

Have you tried not smoking for a few weeks to see how you feel?
