      I'm quite sure they would be horrified at the level of intrusion the governement has in peoples lives from every aspect.

      BTW, I don't disagree with anything they are saying, really. Those quotes are all about the ABUSES about the OVEREXTENSION of government power. You have to take into consideration the times. The "government" Jefferson and Paine knew was the Crown... England. Of course they aren't going to have nice things to say about government power. Which is probably why the US government was designed with checks and balances, to limit any one branches' power. But then again, I'm not surprised conservatives don't understand this either.
      I likewise hold they would consider the extent of government today as an OVEREXTENSION and ABUSE of power of the governement as imposed upon the citizenry.

      They didn't have nice things to say about the concentration of wealth, you know?

      And conservatives misunderstand most of those quotes. I'm not surprised that you do.
      Please educate me how these well to do elite despised free trade.
