You seem to have missed his threads spent whining about how horrible it is and how he wishes he never bought it.

Jesus... even the most technically incompetent people I know have had no troubles with their iPods.

I guess he's just hopeless with technology. Either that or he was messing around with it. I've never heard of anyone losing their collection.

But seriously no-one has anything that is anywhere near as good as Apple's current offerings (the nano and the iPod video). Both these models rectified the most common complaints people had (battery life, bass response, etc.), so there's no reason not to get one... especially since all the best peripherals are made for the iPod.

Not the latest iPod video... not by a long shot sonny. The Vision M is just a cheap, bulky copy of Apple's player with poor controls and a hideous form factor.

Anyway, IIRC you are famous for being FOS on this matter, so your opinion hardly counts.

agathon, how can you argue with people who are happy with the product they purchased? i love my zen touch 30 gb. i wouldnt buy an ipod for several reasons and its useless trying to convince us otherwise. imitation or not we are happy with our decisions. so go away.

If you don't want to buy Apple, iRiver is probably the best choice. Their stuff has a consistently good reputation.

I have a iPod Mini. No problem with the battery. Its the first time I hear about battery problems specific to the Mini. I assumed that the people who had problems were unlucky and bought a lemon. It never wiped my music collection. I never heard of that ever happening, until Asher came along. In sum: I'm perfectly happy with my iPod Mini. And it was cheaper than the Zen Micro.

Those are old hat. The iPod nano has excellent battery life. It's easily the best in its class
Yeah the nano looks hot, but only as a jogging player for the rich. Any true music addict needs at least 10g of varied library belted and accessible to have adequate selection.. even at 30g, the selection is often not enough

Anyway I think I'll try to just get apple to exchange me a 6g iPod for an additional charge rather than replace this one with a 4, as they apparently just replace rather than re-assemble. What a ****show

Hey, did they ever make 8g iMinis, back in the day?

As far as I am concerned the main reason not to buy Apple is that Apple tries to tell you what to play, how to play it, and what to play it on. They seriously attempt to restrict how users use their music which is something the other mp3 makers do not attempt to do. That sound quality is slightly less, that battery life is slightly less, that the screen is some what smaller, that the Ipod supports fewer formats, and that the Ipod costs more are just kickers. The important part is that the others don't attempt to control which type of music I play or how/where I transfer that music.
