I am betting that you have mostly read the popular type books on it, you should try reading some real physics books if this is the case (the popular books are fun and all, but some come away from them with some big misconceptions, and physics that we understand better is really cool on it's own (field theory and chaos and quantum mechanics and relativity and all sorts of other areas (of course, relativity is mostly theoretical although there is a satelite being built to do some searchs for gravitational waves)).

(we do have tests on relativity, in astrophysics and the like, and we use special relativity all the time (but than special relativity isn't that interesting))
(I actually know very little about GR, I have some books at home I need to study myself)
I really want to read Hawkings books(but I'm busy with Paco Underhill at the moment) and then some others that will explain basic physics. The only problem for me is all of the math. I am terriblehorrible, at math. I still love the sciencey stuff though. Like just understanding how sound works at a molecular level, is really cool to me. Even basic stuff like how water hangs together fascinates me.
As for psych not being sciencey. Yeah I know. but I still like as a deviation from philosophy. So when Camus starts to leave me befuddled (after page 2) I head over to wikipedia's psych section or my textbooks and read at random.
I'm getting kind of good actually and starting to add important tid bits to meager articles.

I am glad that you are always ready with a physics hand though, generally I don't like posting about that, but I want to

I'm always ready with a physics ***** slap whenever nonphysicists talk a big game.
The physicists here are generally big enough to admit when they don't know something or aren't sure, so I've never had to get into a real smackdown. The closest I came was with Last Conformist over the hydroelectricity angular momentum problem...12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

There are a couple in my department too. I had one of them as a TA. The dude had no ****ing clue how to do the problems he was correcting. He was a total ****ing douchebag about it. He would say "oh, you just use such and such a method on it" as though he knew what he was talking about. Sounded good for about 5 seconds before you realised that there were about 3 fatal flaws with his suggestion. He was supposedly a high energy theorist, but he "didn't ever want to have to deal with field theory".12-17-10 Mohamed Bouazizi NEVER FORGET

He tried to do High Energy Theory also...
I think he has been in graduate school for a long time
maybe High Energy Theory attracts that sort
