  • Yes. high K gives higher energy storage in a capacitor.

DFT is a method of calculating. Pretty effective for periodic structures. Less effective for molecules. ALthough it's been used even on diatomics. Art Freeman at NU is one of the heavies here. I've worked with him a little. (I did not do any DFT).

      Boring **** IMO...
the interesting part is how do you get a material that has these properties. The structures can be quite complicated. It's a little like high Tc.

All theories are methods of calculating.

I used to have the basic papers. It gives you something that is easier to calculate. Remember stuff about MTOs. Muffin tin orbitals. good for band structures.

Just thought I would add a question for a guy in a similar field to that which I will be in in a few months' time...

I use to work in aseptic manufacturing; clean room technology, cleaning validation, etc. for Alza Pharmaceuticals, a drug delivery company, in Mountain View. They got bought out by Johnson and Johnson. I left them when they let Che go ... Well, like 2 years later.

Now I work for Meridian Bioscience (NASDAQ: VIVO) here in Cincinnati. We make Medical Diagnostic products; devices that detect if you have a certain condition/disease. I do validations here, which is really just a lot of busy work, hence my posting rate during the days. I'm one of 4 engineers in the company. We pretty much handle any engineering need that may arise from expiration dating to process improvements and development work to trouble shooting.
So Japher, as someone with lots of cleaning, aseptic and validation experience, what are your thought on the benefits of using disposal units (e.g. for filtration) as opposed to cleaning and re-using units? Do you think the financial benefits of developing a system where you can re-use components and materials several times outweights the additional validatory work and systems testing that would be involved?

                • Talk to me about facemasks and your buying decision-making criteria for facemasks. Would you pay more for a more comfortable type? How much does difficulty of inhalation or exhalation (pressure drop) affect your comfort level in a cleanroom facemask?

No need to go looking under rocks for it, when we're already swimming in it.
