Like lasers. I remember way back to when they were invented. The focus of the stories was that they'd be the new Buck Roger's deathrays. No one guessed they'd be turned into supermarket scannners and would be used for eye surgery.

On the other hand, the promised atomic-powered toasters and flying cars are still not feasible.

There is a pretty good science history book on the inventor of the laser. He had a huge battle to defend his patent but won in the end. Was a grad student going against a Nobel prize winner. But he won in the end. Lived in Brecekeniringde when I was out ther.

He should have gotten the Nobel Prize just for being able to spell the name of the place!

                          Who's Moi?

                          Yup, ChemE

I use to work in aseptic manufacturing; clean room technology, cleaning validation, etc. for Alza Pharmaceuticals, a drug delivery company, in Mountain View. They got bought out by Johnson and Johnson. I left them when they let Che go ... Well, like 2 years later.

Now I work for Meridian Bioscience (NASDAQ: VIVO) here in Cincinnati. We make Medical Diagnostic products; devices that detect if you have a certain condition/disease. I do validations here, which is really just a lot of busy work, hence my posting rate during the days. I'm one of 4 engineers in the company. We pretty much handle any engineering need that may arise from expiration dating to process improvements and development work to trouble shooting.

So is it more documentation than engineering?

When you work in an FDA regulated environment it is more documentation engineering than engineering.
