It is not clear at this point if he had been taking any pills other than his prescribed drugs for high pressure. The detention ward in the Hague prison does not have adequate facilities to treat heart diseases like the one Milosevic had so the only prudent decision was to send him to a specialised hospital. Had he been sent to the Moscow clinic, he would not have died of heart attack.

This is unfortunate. The prosecution has not come anywhere close to proving that he was the monster he was portrayed as, and now the guy is dead... probably through the stress of imprisonment and the trial itself.

If it comes out that he wasn't a war criminal this will make the tribunal look very bad... I mean for God's sake, it took them less than a year to put the surviving Nazis on trial and they were accused of countless crimes, all worse than anything Milosevic was accused of.

Well, trying a head of state is probably a once in a lifetime career opportunity, looks great on resume and everything, so the court had an interest in dragging their feet. I bet you the salaries there aren't bad either.

Who would want him dead before the trial was over? Killing him would just turn him into martyr and therefore give the Serbian nationalists a popularity boost.

Yea, they could have sent him to that place in Amsterdam that I always go. They're very good there and always straighten me right out. Come to think of it, it isn't actually a hospital though. What do you call a place where a large Dutch woman sits on you for money?

Stress of imprisonment? Victims of stress and "good healthcare" usually don't have traces of foreign substances which neutralize the effect of medications used for treatment of heart sicknesses.

THE HAGUE, Netherlands (AP) - Traces of a drug used to treat leprosy and tuberculosis were found in a blood sample taken in recent months from former Yugoslav president Slobodan Milosevic, a Dutch news report said, citing an unidentified "adviser" to the UN war crimes tribunal.

The report came hours after Milosevic's legal adviser showed journalists a letter the late Serb leader wrote Friday, one day before his body was discovered in prison, alleging that he was being poisoned.

Doctors found traces of the drug when they were searching for an answer to why Milosevic's medication for high blood pressure was not working, the report said.

Milosevic was examined last January, according to his legal aide, Zdenko Tomanovic.

The NOS report did not identify the drug found in Milosevic's blood "in a test done in recent months," but said it could have had a "neutralizing effect" on his other medications.

Earlier, Tomanovic said Milosevic had been "seriously concerned" about being poisoned.

His letter, dated March 10, was addressed to the Russian Embassy asking for help.

Milosevic had appealed to the war crimes tribunal last December to be allowed to go to a heart clinic in Moscow for treatment. The request was denied. He repeated the request as late as last month.

Tomanovic said he saw the jailed Serb leader on Friday at 4:30 p.m. His body was found the next morning, and by 11 a.m. the letter was delivered to the Russian Embassy".

That's why he has been killed. His death solves all their problems - no man, no problem. They couldn't prove he was guilty, but they couldn't release him, as well. Such decision would meant that agression vs. Yugoslavia was a crime and Clinton and other motherf*ckers should be brought to justice. That wasn't acceptable and which is why Miloshevich is dead now.

This is exactly why he is dead. A couple of days before in the same prison another Serb - Babbich died under sucpicios circumstances. Btw, he was a witness in Miloshevich case. Before that another Serb died, but I don't remember his name. You have a f*cking epidemy in that prison, if you ask me. The epidemy which affects only Serbs whose guilt you can't prove.

Finding him inocent would have a much more serious consecuences.
As Agathon already mentioned it took them one year to prove that nazi were bastards at Nuremberg process, but despite charges against Miloshevich were nowhere close to charges against the Nazis, they where nowhere proving Miloshevich's guiltiness after nearly five years.

Oh, he did recieved the state of the art care there. Then he died.

And before he died, he wrote the letter to Russian minisery of foreign affairs where he wrote that he might be poisoned soon. And then, (who could have guessed?) the traces of substances which neutralized the effects of medications for his heart sickness have been found in his blood.
