Well, Slobo probably didn't directly order any killings, or if he did, he did it face to face and there is no written trace anywhere. That's why they had huge problems during the trial. Basically, they tried to get him through command responsibility, but that proved tricky too, because of many informal and parallel channels through which things got done in Serbia and Yugoslavia.

In my opinion he is guilty of enticing and aiding Serb rebellion in Croatia.

His influence over local Serb leaders in Croatia and Bosnia wasn't total, but was very strong. I firmly believe that if Slobo didn't want wars, they wouldn't have happened.

It is very puzzling how such an intelligent man (which he obviously was) managed to make so many strategic mistakes. He was a charmer, a manipulator and a good tactician, but he had no vision whatsoever.

So, are there any war criminals still alive that are accused of genocide? Or are all the remaining war criminals of the pettier crimes variety? Hell, who is the worst war criminal still living now that milo is dead?

In former Yugoslavia? My vote would go to Mladic, closely followed by Karadzic. Both are still not captured
Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
            Once again...

It's my understanding that Slobo wipped up anti-muslim hatred among Bosnian Serbs who were afraid that they would become 2nd class citizens in an independent Bosnia. He didn't cause the genocide directly, but he sure incited the sh*tstorm that caused it.

I have that constitution in front of me, perhaps you can point out to me which parts are "near-fascist"?

They ignored the fact that Yugoslavia indebitted itself to build up the infrastructure of Slovenia and Croatia to build an export industry to help the whole country, and got stuck with the bill when those republics decided to split.
When Yugoslavia broke apart, each seceeding country took up a portion of debt in proportion to country's GDP in the Yugoslavian GDP.

Milosevic died of boredom, not natural causes. It's the preferred way of execution in Europe.
If you look around and think everyone else is an *******, you're the *******.

the Muslims sided with the Nazis during WW2... in addition to that, ethnic tensions go back hundreds of years...

being an America, you won't understand... Serbs have long memories... my mom actually admitted to me that when she was a kid, she thought the battle of Kosovo took place like 50 years ago (from when she was a kid), because of the way everyone talked about it... that's the way they think. Everything is fresh in history to them. Like it happened yesterday.

Milosevic didn't incite anything. He didn't need to.

The terrorist attacks on the Serb civilian populations are what triggered the response from Milosevic... the atrocities against the Serbs is what did it. They weren't about to let themselves be victims again. And things spiraled out of control.

It's like the start of WW1. The assassination of the Archduke Ferdinand. One man, and boom... a war.

True. However, situation had it that when Yugoslavia was breaking up, the Serbs ended up with practically the entire arsenal of JNA (Yugoslavian National Army, sometimes touted as "the third strongest army in Europe"), while everyone else had pointed sticks. So there weren't two for tango really, until about 1995.

I meant bona fide war criminals whose deliberate abuse of power directly detroyed thousands of innocent lives in direct contravention of all international law. The kind of guys who walk in the footsteps of Pol Pot.

That would be Karadjic and Mladic.

Of course he didn't start the conflict, that was done by Bosnian and Croatian nationalists. Milosevic did originally have the moral high ground, but instead of trying to be a peacemaker he excacerbated the conflict by wipping up Serbian nationalists into an even worse nationalistic mania then even the Croats and Bosnians were in. I am not saying the other side was innocent, because they weren't, but Milosevic was responsible for causing the violence to spiral out of control.
