And Blair emulating Thatcher? Of course he has! But I challenge you to dig up anything where I have supported Blair...
well you recall wrongly i guess, unless you consider getting owned and then running away a win. your winnar etc.

you support of blair is neither here nor there, the point is that thatcher had such an impact that labour had to imitate her to get elected. we had the quite bizarre situation in 1997/2001 and to an extent 2005 of having two 'neo-thatcherite' parties fighting the election, if that isn't a testament to her legacy, then i don't know what is.

She also starved most of the remaining nationalized companies insuring that virtually all of them went bankrupt. She is the reason Britain went from the most industrialized state in western Europe to the least industrialized state (judged by domestic industrial output).

Sadly this could have been avoided if a longer term approach had been adopted. She should have slowly weened them off of government subsidies allowing the companies to adapt to the new environment instead of going cold turkey and forcing nearly all of them into Bankruptcy.
Absolutely, we have had a lot of our industry screwed up, and let's look at her legacy when it comes to the state of our public transport system, completely neglected under her rule, and now being milked for all it's worth by the people who run it thanks to her privatisation schemes...

That was more a case of 'lesser of two evils' - the reputation of the Labour Party at that point was still not too hot...

                Re: Margaret Thatcher

... is the worst ***** ever, a destroyer of hopes. I can't wait for her to get the comeuppance she deserves for the untold suffering she wrought

Now, maybe I should read the thread

Could you guys please use genderless pejoratives like a55hole and b4st4d instead of gendered ones? Gendered ones have lousy connotations and baggage. Comrade Thatcher is an assh0le. No need for five-letter words that bring sexual dynamics into it.

Thatch was a b1tch from hell for all the reasons stated above - it says something that one of her best mates is Pinochet, "The Butcher".

Or the fact that she send the SAS to Cambodia to train the Khmer Rouge in their insurgency after they'd committed their Year Zero genocide...

Winston for supporting yet another bloodthirsty right-wing nutcase lunatic, par for the course from you as usual...

Ironically, one of the few things she did I actually agree with was the Falklands - and yes, **** the Belgrano!

As for Blair, this poster says it all - quite prophetic really seeing as this was way back in 1997...

At least I can sleep easy in the knowledge that I wasn't one of the then Labour voters duped by him back then...

look, can we all agree that all politicians are douchebags? Thatcher, Blair, Cameron, Bush, FDR, Stalin, Harper etc?
You just wasted six ... no, seven ... seconds of your life reading this sentence.

FFS it was a war, there'd have been a hell of a lot more contraversy if 9 6" guns had been brought to bear on British ships had this needless, irrelevant rule been implemented, and the Belgrano been able to slip through. If ANY of us were in command in that situation, we'd have sunk the ****er!

I think some of Maggies social policies if you can call them that left a lot to be desired, but considering the state of Britain in the late 70's, with the unions running rampant, I think the alternative would have been worse.
