Yields and area planted for corn (maize). Notice the recent yield spike to over 160 bushels an acre. About a 30 bushel an acre improvement in 3 years.

so if I am reading this right the prices are not expected to fall any further but to stabilise above 2.5 $/bushel...
but yes there is a spike, which is probably the last bit of "non projected data", and the price fell at the same time it seems, but the corelation does not seem to follow totally... the second graph would suggest - lots of unused stocks, price falls and otherwise, which is to be expected. This is more "stocks management" than GMO related - ie, bigger yields thus more stocks, thus lower prices. I guess the prices will be stable one way or another, perhaps less land will be needed to produce adequate quantities of crops or some such benefit in case of US, plus the compensation to the companies providing seeds, but at least according to the graphs you presented there is no expectation or indication that the price itself should fall due to increased yield.

I don't know the precise breakout of the increase due to GM versus other technologies that were adopted at the same time, such as precision farming. However, the uptake of use of GM seeds has been rather dramatic over the last 5 years, and now the majority of corn planted in the US is GM. My sense is that the bulk of the difference is due to GM crops, but am willing to entertain information to the contrary.
