This has to be photoshopped or something, it fits to well into the "Why do you hate freedom? " mantra.
It's candy. Surely there are more important things the NAACP could be boycotting. If the candy were shaped like a burning cross or a black man made of regular chocolate being dragged behind a truck made of white chocolate I could understand the outrage and would share it. - Drosedars
Yes, alot of people were upset, and asked for an apology from a government official who was actually responsible for saying what he said. Plus the people who were upset didn't (not to my knowledge anyway) threaten to kill him or destroy his entire country. Now a large group of Muslims (including governments) are asking demanding that the Danish government shut down a newspaper because that newspaper violated one of their beliefs. Apples and oranges here. You cannot compare the two.
I already said the reaction is completely over the top, especially since it's been 4 months ago. However, I don't think we should pretend we aren't willing to restrict freedom of speech for our own taboos.

I agree, but we have already established that those that are threatening violence and death are the extremists - why play into their hands?
And we don't practice free speech, I don't think there is a single western country that does - and the reason why is the fear of insulting certain people's sensibilities...
And witch people may that be that you may not insult ? For the moment the only I can recall some seems that isn't allowed to be insulted is muhammed.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
Now this is one of those situations that caused me to join the Army in the first place Mobius. I don't really agree with the cartoons. They are mostly pretty stupid and I personally would not have printed them, but they have the right to do so. That whole "I don't agree with what you are saying, but I will fight with my life to make sure that you are able to say it" that is the cornerstone to our society is being challeged. Stand up for your right to say offensive things are risk loosing that right entirerly!
No matter what the final outcome of all this will be, I foresee great difficulty for any Danes moving safely in a number of those countries for decades to come.
But then, I'm inclined to say "Their loss!". We have always taken an interest in - and helped - most of these countries, in almost every imaginable way. If they now want to harass, beat and kill us - and their governments sit idly by, as in the case of Syria - then fine. We won't bother you by our presence. But don't come crawling back later and expect us to have forgotten all of this. Won't happen.

If I recall in France it is illegal to deny the holocaust.
In the US the confederate flag has been banned in many forms, some states want to ban teaching about evolution etc...
The whole 'PC' culture...
The west bleating on about freedom of speech is basically hypocritical when taking those examples into consideration...
Aren't you falling into the trap? Reacting to nations due to the actions of citizens?
Of course, with Syria...
Not really, I don't mind protests on the street (free speech and all), it's the countries where their government has deemed it necessary to get involved (think recalling ambassadors, condemning our inherent to free speech, so countries like Libya, Egypt, Iran, Pakistan and obvioulsy Syria now).

Look if I called your mother a whore and you violently demanded I stop on pain of death (understandable), I wouldn't carry on shouting it at the top of my voice, would I?
The only place that I can recall the Confederate flag being banned is government buildings.
The other things, France's denial of the holocaust and even the evolution deal, are laws (or attempted laws) in those respective states. It appears that in those states, a mojority of the people seem to feel that way. But the Muslims are trying to force their laws on other sovergien countries!!!
I don't give a damn if something is "culturally insensitive". Regulating "offensive" speach is censorship. I'm not going to let some PC nuts tell me what I can and can't say. The people going around saying we must "respect" f*cked up cultures can go to Hell.

Yes, but you currenly have the right to say such things... if you don't stand up for that right them it would be taken from you.
( My mother a whore!!! Thats just way to funny... you should see my mom... )

Yeah well they're the elite puppeteers manipulating their ignorant and illiterate populace into forgetting what their own governments are like...

Saw this earlier today, can't remember where:
Freedom of expression is always in danger of being lost to us - if it isn't routinely exercised to its fullest.
Ironic that a right-winger like you should care about the erosion of our freedoms when your kind are more than happy to pass anti-terrorist laws in our countries that curb those very freedoms...
