The only good religions do at the moment is charitable causes and that should not be based around the missionary agenda it is frequently now anyway.
Except they mostly are of the strings attached variety...

Winston, you are anti freedom of speech - you are a hypocrite!

We all know the reason you've jumped on this bandwagon is your well publicised anti muslim agenda...

Am I to be punished for speaking the truth, thus further proving my point?

      We shall see...

Winston is a hypocrite! I am insulted that he should try to take away my freedom to speak the truth!

          • This should have been done in the US.. hell, they hate us anyway down there... but American Muslims are usually less radical than their European breatheren (I think because we've integrated them better into US society... there are no American Muslim ghettos in the big cities for one).

              **** the Vatican.
In december, the Pope let it be known that atheist are obliged to respect "holy things". The RCC may have mellowed in attitude, but they still fully believe they've got the authority to dictate what people are allowed to think, catholics or not.

              • Freedom of speech may very well be an important cornerstone of western civilization, however it is not so important that the innocent should get caught in the fanatical crossfire.

Freedom comes with responsibilty. Fanatically defending a principle will do harm to many more that have no desire to get caught up in conflict.

Self-restraint does not necessarily equate with censorship, and in this case would have been wise...

Also, use of the Stars and Bars flag is not illegal as far as I know. Europe is much more PC than the US, IMO.
The paradox: Most Swedes of all political directions would embrace the Chinese Falun-Gong movement, but if you show a Falun Gong symbol, the same person would go crazy.

We must reclaim the swastica from the nazis, and celebrate it as the 4000-year old health symbol it really is.

Well that's true. I wonder if part of this is because the Danish paper looked as though they really wanted to annoy Muslims when doing this.

                            The whole 'PC' culture...

The west bleating on about freedom of speech is basically hypocritical when taking those examples into consideration...
Some frogeater have to answer the french/holocaust denial.

The confederation flag forbidden ? Well, those who typically want to use it is pro segregation and often even slavery - didn't know that you were a supporter of that.

You are right, some states want to ban teaching of evolution, but have they succeded ? Is it illegalt to talk about evolution ?

The only point where I agree with you is the PC culture - it should be fought against every time it pops up it's little ugly head.

I actually thought you could do better.
With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

It is likely that some chose to see it that way. Of course, reprinting the same cartoons in other newspapers just made the matter worse.

They tested the limits and certainly found them. Are we any the better off for it?

Nah the first "mohamed cartoon" thread turned into a Winston vs Gepap slang fest and got locked.
