The Iranian president threatens to cancel all trade contracts with European countries whose newspapers have published caricatures.

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said the caricatures showed the “impudence and rudeness” of Western newspapers against the prophet, as well as the “maximum resentment of the Zionists (Jews) ruling these countries against Islam and Muslims”.

Danish MP Naser Khader, who is Syrian born, (and a Muslim himself, if it should matter to anyone) is horrified - and puzzled - upon learning of the burning of the embassy in Damascus.

"Nothing happens in Syria without the government's approval. Nothing. I'm wondering why no action was taken by the Syrian authorities to prevent this. They now claim that the protest got out of control, but that is not the way things happen in Syria. Things don't run out of control in this country. It is my belief that the Syrian government has had a clear interest in showing its Arab neighbours that it is as deeply concerned and offended as any about this dispute. I don't think this was a case of lack of government control."

Earlier today, Khader was among the organizers of the forming of a new network of Danish Muslims who are distrustful of Danish Muslim clerics, and what they perceive as the hypocritical and anachronistic messages flowing from these clerics.

The new network aims to present an alternative voice for Muslims, independent of religious dogma, and committed to Danish societal values of democracy, equal rights and integration of immigrants.

For years, Khader has been under constant police protection after having received countless threats upon his life from "fellow" Muslims in Denmark.

Everyone should take a chill pill. I think Danes have been targetted and attacked enough already. That's why it's vital to have the chill pill universally right now, because if it's not taken now, there will be some action. Denmark simply can not let these things go by.

Isn't an attack on an embassy usually seen as an act of war, what with embassies being sovereign ground independent of the countries they are based in?

I've had it with this whole Islamic rubbish tbh. Basically shortly and sweetly put, they need to grow the **** up. They're acting like petulant little teenagers. Maybe its time to expel all known radical muslims from Western countries and bar any immigration from countries that have protested our freedom of speech in the last few days. Follow this up with economic sanctions and freezing of assets.

I think the west has been to nice with this rubbish, if they want an enemy they can have a proper enemy.

Well, I would see that attack on Danish embassy in Syria is an attack in Danish lands. What is the key in this IMO is how Syrian government handles this. Will they do what is needed, or do they just play chewbacca, if so, I see it as an act of war.

Note I did not say that all of, say, that secular westerners should stand around and burn out Foreign Embassies of the Muslim Nations that protest against our right of Free Speech. Yes, that would a bad idea. But what if, say, British Muslims start congregating and threaten to burn down the Danish Embassy in London? Personally, I think it would be a bad idea to let them do it. So what then? gas them out? In a city of 8 Million people, that could turn nasty, what with wind direction. Assign police to gaurd the Embassies? We already have done.

If a mob assaulted an Embassy in this country, I do think that shooting at the mob would be a good idea. If the mob pretested in peace, leave them be, no problem with that. If they call for the ""Perpetrators" of the "crime" to be handed over to islamic authorities and killed, ignore them, they're loonies. Go with Rubber bullets if you please, someone is still going to get hurt, and I would prefer it if it was the violent attackers instead of the peaceful attacked.

From what I've read, it has been the standard "Freedom of press doesn't mean you should intentionally incite hatred", similar to Britain's.

to New Zealand:

to the Muslim response:

The Turkish president, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, was quoted in the Turkish press saying: "Caricatures of prophet Muhammad are an attack against our spiritual values. There should be a limit of freedom of press."

More than 500 people, led by the extremist group al-Ghuraba, formerly al-Mujahiroun, marched to the Danish embassy in Knightsbridge carrying banners calling on Muslims to "massacre" those who insult Islam and chanting: "Britain, you will pay, 7/7 on its way."

Anjem Choudhary, one of the leaders of the demonstration, refused to condemn the threat of another suicide attack in London on the scale of the July 7 bombings as a result of the perceived insult to Islam. "I am not in the business of condoning or condemning," he said. "The fact is that 7/7 was brought upon the people of London and Britain by the foreign policy of Tony Blair. There is no reason why there should not be more suicide bombings in London."
